Welcome to "Primetime Pitchers", where each week, we'll highlight the top pitching performances across baseball and softball diamonds around the state of Idaho.
We will select one pitching performance for each day of the week. Think of it as the best pitching line for that particular day.
Because the season began on a Wednesday, this weekly rundown will cover the previous week's Wednesday through Tuesday action.
If you'd like to nominate a Primetime Pitcher, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.
Without further ado, let's get to it!
BASEBALL
Mike Lester, Melba (Wednesday, April 2)
Lester pitched a no-hitter against Western Idaho Conference rival New Plymouth, as Melba won 10-0. Across five innings of work, the only warts on the day for Lester were one walk, one hit batter, and one error from his defense. Otherwise, Lester allowed no runs, no hits, and racked up 11 strikeouts.
Tre Morse and Andrew Chapman, Mountain Home (Thursday, April 3)
Another day, another no-hitter, this time a combined effort from Mountain Home's Tre Morse and Andrew Chapman in an 8-0 Great Basin Conference win over Jerome. Admittedly, Morse (a Gonzaga commit) did most of the heavy lifting in this one, yielding one walk against 17 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of work. Chapman came on for the final out, and recorded it via strikeout.
Gunner Stringham, Kimberly (Friday, April 4)
Stringham twirled a complete game one-hitter in a 6-0 win over Snake River at the Mid-Season Classic Tournament. Stringham pitched seven innings of one-hit ball, walking two and striking out 15.
Luke Fox and Teague Fox, North Star Charter (Saturday, April 5)
North Star Charter defeated Garden Valley 26-0, and both Fox boys had a hand in the win. Luke pitched four innings, and allowed only two hits and a walk against 16 strikeouts. Teague finished the contest off, and struck out the side in his lone inning of work.
Cole Young, North Star Charter (Monday, April 6)
Perhaps inspired by the Fox's efforts on Saturday, Young kept the strong pitching going for North Star Charter. In an 8-0 win over Idaho City, Young pitched a complete game two-hitter, walking one and striking out 16 across six innings.
Dom Holden, Troy (Tuesday, April 7)
Mother Nature hasn't really allowed Troy to play much yet this year, but their Whitepine League debut against Genesee didn't disappoint. In a 15-0 win, Holden pitched six innings, allowing one hit and one walk. 17 of the 19 batters he faced were retired via strikeout.
SOFTBALL
Mallory Kelsey, Kimberly (Wednesday, April 2)
Kelsey is no stranger to this list, and the senior continued her impressive campaign inside the pitcher's circle in a 5-1 win over Canyon Ridge. Kelsey tossed all seven innings, allowing one run on just two hits, while striking out nine and walking one.
Hailey Brennan, Owyhee (Thursday, April 3)
Brennan has also been featured in this space several times already, and in a 4-0 win over Southern Idaho Conference foe Kuna, she threw seven innings of one-hit ball. Brennan struck out 18 Kavemen while issuing two walks.
Delaney Wright, Timberline (Friday, April 4)
Wright tossed a no-hitter in Timberline's 9-0 win over Borah in Southern Idaho Conference play. Across seven innings of work, Wright allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 17. The only separation between the no-hitter and a perfect game was one walk and one hit batter.
Jaelynn Patton and Olivia Rogers, Gooding (Saturday, April 5)
Gooding's dynamic duo was on point in a 26-0 win over Salmon at the Lady Dawg Spring Classic. The duo yielded one hit over five innings of work, while striking out eight and walking four.
Wesli Crockett, Parma (Monday, April 7)
Crockett threw a one-hitter in a 16-0 win over New Plymouth in Western Idaho Conference action. Crockett struck out 13 and walked just one across five innings of work.
Delaney Wright, Timberline (Tuesday, April 8)
Wright makes our list for the second time this week after holding the Boise Brave to no runs on one lonely hit across seven innings of action. Wright struck out 13 and walked only two, and Timberline needed every last out she recorded, as the Wolves won 1-0.
