Welcome to "Primetime Pitchers", where each week, we'll highlight the top pitching performances across baseball and softball diamonds around the state of Idaho.

We will select one pitching performance for each day of the week.  Think of it as the best pitching line for that particular day.

Because the season began on a Wednesday, this weekly rundown will cover the previous week's Wednesday through Tuesday action.

If you'd like to nominate a Primetime Pitcher, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.

Without further ado, let's get to it!

BASEBALL

Porter Higley and Remington Higley, Buhl (Wednesday, March 12)

The Higley brothers combined for a perfect game in Buhl's season-opening 11-0 victory over Declo.  Porter tossed five innings, striking out 12 Hornets.  Remington took the final inning, and retired the side in order, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Alan Mesillas and William Gydesen, Glenns Ferry (Thursday, March 13)

For the second consecutive day in the Magic Valley, a pair of teammates combined their efforts into a no-hitter.  Mesillas pitched 4 1/3 innings for the Pilots, striking out 12 American Falls batters.  Gydesen pitched the final 2/3 of an inning, striking out one to wrap up the 16-0 win over the Beavers.  Mesillas and Gydesen each walked one batter, the lone blemishes on the day.

Aiden Olive, Orofino (Friday, March 14)

Orofino won the Class 2A state championship last year, and their title defense began in triumphant fashion, as Olive pitched a perfect game in a 14-0 win over Kellogg.  Olive went five innings and struck out 11.  Not only did Olive deliver a perfect game, but the win counted in the Central Idaho League standings as well.

Jake Redder, Burley (Saturday, March 15)

Redder allowed no runs on just one hit across five innings of work in the Bobcats' 11-1 win over Idaho Falls.  Redder struck out six while walking four.

Alan Mesillas, Glenns Ferry (Monday, March 17)

Mesillas landed on our list for the second time this week, and for good reason.  After combining on a no-hitter his first time out against American Falls, Mesillas handled the job on his own in a 10-0 win against Lighthouse Christian.  Mesillas once again pitched a no-hitter, with two walks the only obstacle between Mesillas and a perfect game.  Over five innings, Mesillas struck out 11 Lions.

Beau Ramsey, Middleton (Tuesday, March 18)

The Vikings met up with Thunder Ridge for a pair of meet-in-the middle games at Jerome High School on Tuesday.  In the second game, Ramsey pitched a perfect game, as he faced 15 Thunder Ridge batters and retired all 15 with aplomb.  Of the 15 batters retired by Ramsey, 11 were done in via the strikeout.

SOFTBALL

Liddia Gonzalez, Malad (Wednesday, March 12)

Gonzalez opened up the season on the right foot, tossing four scoreless frames in a 15-0 season-opening win over Snake River.  Gonzalez yielded a single hit, while striking out eleven Panthers and walking only two.

Mallory Kelsey, Kimberly (Thursday, March 13)

Kimberly's All-Conference hurler picked up right where she left off in 2024, twirling a perfect game in her season debut.  In a 15-0 win over Marsh Valley, Kelsey went five innings, allowing no runs, no hits, no walks, while striking out eleven batters.

Lauren Fettic, Bishop Kelly (Friday, March 14)

In the Knights' 12-0 win over Canyon View (Utah), a lone walk was the only difference between a perfect game and a no-hitter for Fettic.  Still, a no-hitter is pretty good, especially one that is accompanied by ten strikeouts over six innings.

Madi Janicek, Weiser (Saturday, March 15)

Janicek scatterd four hits over five scoreless frames, delivering eight strikeouts and zero walks in the Wolverines' 14-0 shutout win over New Plymouth.

Ally Evans, Century (Monday, March 17)

On a light schedule of games Monday, Evans dazzled in Century's narrow 5-4 win over Marsh Valley.  Evans went the distance, pitching six innings, and allowed four runs (two earned) on just one hit.  Eight walks led to most of the run-scoring damage, but that was offset by 17 strikeouts by Evans.

Libby Garcia, Middleton (Tuesday, March 18)

Garcia yielded a lone unearned run on two hits over five innings in Middleton's 11-1 win over Boise.  Garcia struck out 14 batters while walking just two.
