After a winless 2014, the Camas County Mushers started heading in the right direction last season, becoming more competitive in the 1AD2 Sawtooth West Conference.

Following the 3-5 mark last year, including one game won on a Greenleaf forfeit, new Head Coach Rusty Kramer will look to lead the youth movement forward.

Previously the junior high coach, Kramer has strong familiarity with what is a good sophomore group and a solid incoming freshman class, which will see action right out of the gate to begin their high school careers.

"[It's] a young group that I have been working with since they were in sixth grade," said Kramer. "Also exciting to be coaching both of my sons."

Those sons, KC Hainline and Remington Kramer, will help to man the front of the defensive line.

"Tough, young front four, anchored by [Remington] and [KC]," added Kramer.

The Mushers are still undecided on what scheme they will run on that side of the ball, but the new head coach says the tackling and physicality will need to improve either way.

Offensively Camas County lost quarterback Eric Peterson to graduation, so finding someone who can run the offense will be paramount to the success of the team in the new year.

Running back Austin Burns (pictured) will be heavily relied on to carry the load on the ground, while Jimmi Waligorski provides a number one receiving option for whoever lines up under center.

A close loss to Richfield on a double pass in the middle of last season prevented the Mushers from reaching the .500 mark. The rematch with the Tigers at home on October 21 can be circled as the game to watch this year for Camas County .

If the new group can improve the turnover margin and be as strong on the lines as Kramer thinks they can be, equaling or eclipsing that .500 mark this season is not out of the realm of possibility for the Mushers.
