Being a Blogger
The lessons I have learned from blogging....

Now that I have a few years of blogging under my belt, I have learned a few things that I want to share with you.  I remember when I first heard the word blogger.  I had no clue as to its meaning.  Here is the definition of blogger on dictionary.com:  a person who keeps a Web log (blog) or publish an online diary.

From the very beginning I learned one thing: some people will read into your words what they want. There have been many times where people commented on my blogs and claimed I said something when I absolutely did not.  At first, I was amazed at how my words could be twisted into something they didn’t represent, but I am used to it now.

Through the years, I have been called many things, but I have even more words to add to that list now thanks to blogging:  stupid, idiot, moron, homer, unhealthy person because of my negativity, even a comment about being a Chico Stater, which somehow was intended to mean I have a low IQ. I could go on, but my self-esteem is in danger of evaporating away.

What still amazes me is the emotion that is stirred up in people just from the subject of sports.  I could say something like I am Lakers fan,and I could get a comment about being a complete idiot for rooting for them.  How about the war of words between rivals, such as the Broncos and Vandals? Those emotions are raw and real and sometimes they cross waaaayyy over the line. Did you hear what happened just before the USC/UCLA game last Saturday night?  There was a brawl in the parking lot between tailgaters some four hours before the game, and two people got stabbed.  How about the drunken Browns fan who tackled an 8 year old who was wearing a Jets jersey? This just in:  it’s only a game, people!!

Speaking of which, Rick Reilly has an excellent article on sports fans freaking out at games.  Read it.

So blog on I shall.  I enjoy the blogging and reading the comments no matter what they might say.  And I do have enough self-esteem to handle the negative ones because at the end of the day, it’s not life and death, it’s only sports.

So I may be a Lakers, Dodgers, Rams, USC, Chico State, and Pilgrims fan, but that’s not the reason I am a moron.  If you want to know the real reason I’m a moron, just ask my wife, she’d be more than happy to tell you.
