Name: Jack Kiesbuy
School: Lake City High School
Grade: Junior
Sport: Basketball
Position: Shooting Guard
How did you first get interested in basketball?
I started playing when I was young and I’ve been playing it ever since. I also grew up watching a lot of basketball.
If you play other sports, which is your favorite and why?
Probably ping pong because I’m really good at it and it helps with hand-eye coordination.
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from high school sports?
Don’t ever take things for granted and be grateful for the little things in life.
What has been your favorite high school memory so far?
Fight For The Fish. It’s one of the best things to happen in Coeur d’Alene in my opinion. Just being able to play in front of basically the whole student body of Lake City High School and Coeur d’Alene High School, it’s just a really cool experience!
What coaches or teachers have made the biggest impact on your athletic career?
Coach Jim Winger, Coach Kelly Reed and especially Coach John Astorqia. They’ve helped me in my life with a lot of things, showing me how to be a respectful person and be thankful for what I have. Coach Astorqia has taught me so many life lessons that have helped me become who I am today. Coach Reed, I’ve known him since I was in third grade from going to the Lake City kids camp and he’s been the best mentor to me, teaching me the ways of basketball. He’s been there for me basically my whole life and I couldn’t thank him enough for what he’s done for me.
Last but not least, Coach Winger, he’s also known me for quite awhile now and at times he can be pretty tough on me and I love how he pushes me to be the best I can be, same as Reed and Coach A, but besides basketball he’s been such a great person to me and helping me with whatever I needed and I thank him for that. Those three coaches mean a lot to me because I know they have my back through the good and the bad times in my life.
Which teammates have you really connected with during high school
I love playing with all my teammates but the ones I really connect with are Brayden Sundstrom, Nathan Spellman and Chris Irvin. It’s so much fun competing with them because we’re all close friends and we know in games that we have each other’s back and that we’re going to play our hearts out for each other.
Is there anyone in your family who have helped you get to where you are today? My Parents. They’ve been my biggest supporters through my whole basketball career and they just mean so much to me. ?
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I’m a good ping pong player.
What about this season are you looking forward to the most?
I’m really looking forward to trying to win as many games as possible, competing in every game with my teammates at a high level and having fun out there while we’re at it.
