Albertsons Big Deal of the Week: Joshua Hornett (Pocatello)
Pocatello's senior wrestler is a true fighter, training in jiu-jitsu when not competing for the Indians
Published: 1/21/2020 3:04:32 PM

Name: Joshua Hornett
School:
Pocatello High School
Grade:
Senior
Sport:
Wrestling

How did you first get interested in wrestling?
My father made me wrestle when I was young and since then, I have loved the sport.

If you play other sports, which is your favorite and why?
I do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but wrestling is my favorite because it helps with life.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I have ever received was simple but effective: fight from the bottom like your life depends on. That's is the attitude needed to get out from the bottom. Coach Plato taught me that.

What coaches or teachers have made the biggest impact on your athletic career?
My two coaches, Plato and Tyler. Plato has pushed me to do better and improve myself and Tyler has shown me techniques which made me the wrestler I am today.

Which teammates have you really connected with during high school?
I have really connected with Wyett, who has already graduated. He is there for me when I lose a match and have a hard time accepting defeat. I enjoy competing because he will push me and teach me new ways to improve my wrestling.

Is there anyone in your family who have helped you get to where you are today?
My father, he wanted me to wrestle since I was little.

What about this season are you looking forward to the most?
I look forward to making it to state and this time placing first, hopefully. Another part of the season I look forward to is spending time with my team at motels because that is always fun.
