Albertsons Big Deal of the Week: Abigail Yadon (Watersprings)
After recovering from a devastating ACL injury, Abigail Yadon is lighting it up at Watersprings
Published: 10/3/2019 4:52:20 PM

I live in Idaho Falls with my mom and dad. My brother, Uriah, attends Weber State University.

I grew up playing sports and my parents have always pushed me to be active and be the best I can.

I started playing basketball in the second grade and volleyball in the fourth grade. The first time I did track was freshman year of high school. I have attended Watersprings since I was 3 years old. I tore my ACL and meniscus during sophomore track season and was sidelined my whole junior year. In my senior year, I have finally returned to sports and am loving every minute of it. God not just delivered me from a trial, but He’s now rewarding my hardship with joy.

One of my favorite activities outside school and sports is working out at the YMCA crossfit class in Idaho Falls. Special thanks to Scott, Kat, Josh, Steve, Sarah and the gang for always pushing me to work hard. You guys are the best.

Are you a dog or cat person?
I am definitely a dog person because I just love how dogs are so friendly and loving. I am a sucker for puppy eyes. My dog, Bella, gets away with so much once she shows me her brown “sad” eyes.

What’s your favorite food?
My favorite food is Pop-Tarts, with the best flavor being strawberry milkshake. Though not being the breakfast of champions, I occasionally indulge myself with my favorite treat.

What kind of car do you drive?
I drive a 2002 white Jeep Liberty and I love my car. I think it’s cool, cute and unique. My dream car, however, will be to one day drive a blue Jeep Wrangler.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from high school sports?
The best thing I have learned from playing sports is how to be mentally tough. Coach Robyn pushes me on and off the court to work hard, never give up and be the best I can. She helped make me the player I am today.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I want to live on a farm one day and have alpacas and miniature donkeys. They are just so darn cute!

What has been your favorite high school memory so far?
My two favorite memories have been winning two state championships, one by winning 100-meter dash as a freshman and the other by conquering state with my volleyball team as a sophomore.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
My dad is such a great influence in my life and has given me much-needed advice. The most recent advice he has given me is that I need to remember where I was last year when I couldn’t play sports. He reminds me to continue to enjoy and appreciate being able to play sports. Every time I step on the court, I remember his advice.

What do you want to be remembered for?
I would want to be remembered not by my athletic skill or abilities, but by my smile. I want to bring joy to others and make them laugh.

Do you think it’s harder being a student or an athlete?
Being a student is much harder than being an athlete. With sports, I can just go on the court and enjoy myself. I can live in the present and compete. I feel like my best self when I play sports.

What sport do you love to watch?
My favorite sport to watch is college football because of the physical nature of the game and its high intensity. I also love the great concessions served at the games.

And finally a big shoutout to my teammates, you guys have encouraged me throughout the years and this would all be impossible without you. Love you guys!
