Personal Bio:
I am an 18 year old senior at Prairie High School. I started playing basketball in about 1st grade and have always enjoyed playing and watching the sport. My mom was a high school girl's basketball coach so I was always around it when I was younger so it's easy to see how I became interested in playing.

Favorite high school memory, so far?:
My favorite high school memory was winning the first ever basketball championship in our school's history (Kamiah). I gre up playing with the same girls my entire life and being such good friends and knowing how each other played really transferred to the court where we beat every team we played by an average of 25 points during state my junior year. Winning with this team is something I will never forget.

What is something most people do not know about you? :
Something most people don't know about me is that I competed for a championship title at the Idaho Center all four years of high school, ending with two 2nd place finishes and two state championships.

Any thoughts on where you want to go to college? Any offers yet?:
I will be attending Lewis-Clark State College and playing for the women's basketball team with another freshman from CDA.

When you "grow up" what is your idea of the perfect job?:
Right now I am planning on becoming a physical therapist, then specializing in sports physical therapy. Hopefully, one day, that will lead to working with college or professional athletes.

What is the best advice you have ever received and from who?:
Lanny Wilson would always tell me that I could be tired after the game but during the game I had to give 100%. He passed away in 2012 and I still think about him whenever I step out on to the court.

What advice can you give the kids coming up on how to get the most out of their high school careers?:
In high school if you play sports, you don't have to pick school or sports. There is time for both if you make time; it's completely up to you.

Your thoughts on being selected as one of the inaugural IdahoSports.com Student-Athletes of the Year?:
I feel extremely honored to get this award and thankful for the people in my life who nominated me and helped me along the way.

Nominated by Carrie Nygaard, Principal at Prairie HS:
" I am honored to be able to expand on the many positive qualities that Kyndahl Ulmer possess’. First and foremost, Kyndahl depicts a pure, kind, true leader in every facet of the word. She leads with qualities far beyond her years in age, and she is so willing to learn, to become the best she can be, and to serve others in need. Her many hours of volunteer service where not prompted by adults, but often, were thought of by her. She is a great academician, and one that loves to learn and does not take courses merely so she looks better on paper. She strives to be the very best in all that she pursues. She is a huge success now, and will be in the future.

As an athlete, she is a coach’s dream, a schools pride and joy, and community’s best asset. She carries herself with pride for all of those around her. It is a role that she has had to acclimatize into as Kyndahl carries herself in a very quiet manner…until she steps on the court to compete. When she is on the court, she works as hard as any athlete I have been around in my 32 years as educator. She is a great teammate, she studies the game, her opponents and does what is best for the team, regardless of how it will look for her.

Kyndahl will join the Lewis-Clark State College Women’s Basketball Program on scholarship next year. She is a huge success now, will be for the LCSC Women and most important she will be a success in life. "
