Favorite high school memory, so far?:
I have been able to participate in many different activities while in high school. Trying keep it all together was challenging at times but it was definitely worth it. I was able to play in the state championship basketball game. As I stepped unto that court I couldn’t believe the overwhelming feeling I felt, I had finally made it.

What is something most people do not know about you? :
I come from a family of 8 children.

Any thoughts on where you want to go to college? Any offers yet?:
I plan to attend BYU-Idaho this fall.

When you "grow up" what is your idea of the perfect job?:
I plan to get an accounting degree, but the perfect job for me would be to be a stay at home mom.

What is the best advice you have ever received and from who?:
You have to have confidence in all that you do. Coach White (pole vault coach)

What advice can you give the kids coming up on how to get the most out of their high school careers?:
Don’t focus on the small things, just enjoy the sport and love it, no matter what happens.

Your thoughts on being selected as one of the inaugural IdahoSports.com Student-Athletes of the Year?:
I am pleased receive this award. I hope students realize that although it is cool to be an athlete it is still important to do other things and enjoy high school.

Nominated by Paula Tucker, English teacher/track coach at Firth HS:
" Rachel comes from a large family with many sisters, a couple of brothers, pets, and a foreign exchange student from Germany, and no matter what her situation or what she does, she excels.

She balances home and family with sports, church and community service, and hard work. She is organized and dedicated and works towards improving everything she touches. She wrote a grant that brought much-needed improvements to our elementary library. She has served in the Key Club at our high school for four years (one as president), so service is not an occasional pastime to her, it is something she embraces.

Rachel has exceptional computer skills and has placed highly in BPA competitions; these are skills she will continue to develop and use to benefit herself and others in the future. She is a dedicated student that enjoys learning new things and challenges herself in all of her courses.

In athletics, she is motivated to work hard, enjoy the game, and encourage others to be their best selves. She has always been an unselfish individual and team member that works towards the success of the team as a whole. Her smile and this attitude are what make Rachel stand out and make her deserving of this award. "
