Offensive strengths/areas for improvement:
Camp went well. We saw a great competitive spirit and a willingness to listen and support each other. We have some experience at receiver and some good young players coming into the varsity situation with confidence.
Defensive strengths/areas for improvement:
Our defense showed some real intensity and fight at camp and had a lot of fun. We have some good leadership at LB coming back and two lineman returning who stood out.
Special team Strengths:
We will be having some young players coming in to give us more solid play in the special teams area. We have a young kicker that should compete for the kicking job and return specialists that chould challenge for a position. Matt Pancheri is a new addition to our coaching staff and will bring a great atttitude to our special teams. I expect this part of our game to improve tremendously from last year.
Offensive Outlook:
Our offense is intact with some young men who played last year and some nice additions to the team. Our running game and passing game looked improved. We have some young men who are playing hard, understanding the need to support each other and very responsive to our coaching.
Defensive Outlook:
Our leadership in the front seven has stood out. Zack Pickering, Jason Shipton and Zack Pickering are returning as starters and were very good at camp. Tanner Brinkerhoff and Creed Richardson are back at LB, and Kody Christensen gives us a returning experience in the secondary. In camp we saw players flying to the ball with more quickness. With the young guys coming in and a year of understanding of expectations, we feel great about the team effort we saw at camp and are excited about the opportunity to see it carry into the season.
Conference Outlook:
The conference is always tough and competitive. We will be challenged on a weekly basis, and as we gain more confidence in each other will be able to compete for a championship.
Coach's Team Summary:
We have some great energy with those young men that went to camp. It was a lot of fun to see them compete well against some very good football teams. The confidence we gained in each other was inspiring. We are looking forward to that carrying over into the season, thus making it fun and rewarding.
