Southern Idaho Showcase
College coaches will gather at Gooding High School on Thursday to eye some of the top talent in Idaho.

More than 250 football players from across the state will descend on Gooding, Idaho, on Thursday, July 6, for the Southern Idaho Showcase Camp. The camp is free to college-level football players who are members of the 2018 or 2019 classes.

Players from as far away as Mullan and Wallace in District I will join competitors from some of the biggest football programs in Idaho, like Rocky Mountain, Capital and Highland with one goal in mind – to get the eye of college recruiters.

“In Gooding, I have had boys who were NAIA-caliber talent, but couldn’t afford to travel all over to be seen by the universities who were interested,” Gooding High head coach Cameron Andersen said. “It was frustrating to see their college dreams in question because of elements that were out of their control.”

Enter the Southern Idaho Showcase.

So, later this week, several colleges and universities will have representatives in Gooding, looking for some diamonds in the rough while the players look to keep their football dreams alive.

Carroll (MT) College, the College of Idaho, Eastern Oregon University, Montana State-Northern, Montana Tech, Rocky Mountain College, Montana Tech, Willamette, Pacific University, University of Puget Sound and Whitworth are among those who are expected to attend the Southern Idaho Showcase Camp.

Andersen created this camp in the hopes that players from all over Idaho have an opportunity to continue football at the next level.

“I created this free combine for Idaho juniors and seniors to make college connections and bolster the recruiting process,” Andersen said. “I came to find out that the colleges were starving for something like this in Idaho and the response has been awesome.”

The camp begins at 10:30 on Thursday with the offensive and defensive linemen. The workout portion of the camp continues until 1:00 before shifting to some scheme-based drills to give the players an opportunity to showcase their abilities. Then, at 2:00, the players will have an opportunity to visit with any of the schools in attendance on their own.

The Showcase is not a padded camp and players are requested to register for the camp through their school’s head coach.
