The Dietrich Blue Devils shot out of the gates with a 22-point first quarter, eventually growing its lead to as many as 23 points in the third quarter, before holding off the Council Lumberjacks, 68-55, for the 1A Division 2 Boys Real Dairy Shootout championship game.
The win gave Dietrich its first boys title in a half century.
Garrett Astle (21) and Jake Smith (19) combined for 40 points for Dietrich while Ryan Rosengrant led Council with 19 points.
The Blue Devils finished the game with a big advantage at the free throw line as Council was playing catch-up almost from the opening tip. Dietrich hit 23 of 31 free throws while Council attempted just seven free throws in the game, making just two.
