Madison and Highland each came into the Idaho Center Friday night and scored dramatic, last-second victories in semifinal games to earn berths in the 5A Real Dairy Shootout State Championship Game on Saturday night.
For Madison, it was a desperation tip-in by Zach Anderson at the buzzer to shock Borah, 54-53. It was Anderson's only basket of the game and it came after a missed 3-point shot from the corner. Anderson batted the ball toward the basket, it rolled around the rim and fell in, igniting a frenzy among the large contingent of Madison fans. DeAndre Jones led Borah with 15 points and six rebounds, but fouled out with under two minutes left and was forced to watch the end of the game from the Borah bench.
Highland's win was a little more conventional, as Mason Baker drained a 3-pointer from the corner with three seconds left to cap a fourth-quarter rally past Centennial, 54-53. Baker finished the game with 17 points as the Rams overcame a nine-point halftime deficit and the hot shooting of Taylor Wallick, who finished the game with 21 points. Centennial led by as many as eleven points in the first half before Highland came back.
In consolation action, Lewiston's Trystan Bradley had 25 point and 12 rebounds as Lewiston topped Mountain View in an entertaining tilt, 79-73. Mountain View's Damon Thacker led all scorers with 33 points. Rocky Mountain held off a spirited Capital rally in the fourth quarter behind the 20 points and nine rebounds of post player Kolby Lee. Justin Saunders topped Capital's scorers with 17 points. Lewiston and Rocky Mountain will play in the consolation final on Saturday morning.
