CENTENNIAL 55, BOISE 43: The Patriots sank ten of 19 three-point field goals, led by six on eight attempts from Tori Williams, to defeat Boise and advance to Saturday's 5A state championship game.
Williams narrowly missed equaling the single-game 5A state record of eight, set by Steffney Layton in 1994.
Boise led, 15-13, after one quarter when Centennial turned on the jets. The Patriots outscored Boise, 18-8, in the second period and never looked back. Williams led all scorers with 25 points and also handed out six assists to go along with seven steals for the Patriots. Dominique Williams and Lauren Brocke each scored ten for the victors.
The Braves were led by the 16 points, four rebounds and five assists of junior Mandy Simpson. Isabelle Hadden added 12 and Audrey Dingel scored seven.
Centennial shot an impressive 52 percent from the floor in the first half.
MOUNTAIN VIEW 72, EAGLE 52: The Mavericks poured in 31 points in the second quarter and rode that burst to a 20-point semifinal win over the Mustangs.
Destiny Slocum scored 31 points for Mountain View, putting the all-time 5A state tournament record for points in one tournament within reach. The record, set by Alli Nieman in 1996, is 83 meaning Slocum needs 22 points in Saturday's state championship game to tie the record.
Eagle started strong as an Abby Mangum layup gave the Mustangs an 11-6 lead just over four minutes into the game. But Mangum landed awkwardly and had to be helped from the court. She did not return to the game. Janie King and Katelyn Murray led Eagle with eleven points apiece and Cassidy Tiegs added ten.
Slocum got plenty of help for Mountain View, which forced 18 Eagle turnovers. Taeli Carrillo scored 14 points, Adrian Vickery had nine points and ten rebounds and Kayla Anderson chipped in with eight points.
HILLCREST 56, BORAH 45: Hillcrest's Addy Kirkham knocked down five of seven three-point shots en route to a game-high 19 points as the Knights advanced to Saturday's consolation final at the IHSAA 5A Girls State Basketball Tournament by defeating Borah.
Hillcrest built an early lead in the first half and then kept the Lions at an arm's length for most the rest of the game, out-scoring Borah in each of the four quarters.
Lindsay Cook added 12 points and seven rebounds for Hillcrest. Alyssa Bolt (17) and Mical Bilger (14) combined for 31 of Borah's 45 points.
Many of the game's overall team stats were relatively even - Borah out-rebounded Hillcrest, 34-29, while the Lions committed 12 turnovers to Hillcrest's 10 - except for field-goal percentage, where Hillcrest shot 43 percent to Borah's 34 percent.
LAKE CITY 59, HIGHLAND 29: The Wolves held Highland to 4/21 shooting in the first half, racing out to a 30-15 lead at the intermission and never looking back in the consolation-bracket victory.
Nina Carlson led Lake City with 15 points. Lauren Rewers had 11 and Whitney Meier added eight as Lake City led by as many as 32 points in the second half and never trailled in the game.
Highland could never get going offensively, shooting just 22.5 percent from the floor. The Rams actually shot better from the three-point line (4/17, 23.5 percent) than two-point range (5/23, 21.7 percent) and also misfired on ten of their 18 free throws. Allie Thayne had seven points off the bench to lead Highland offensively.
Lake City will face off with Hillcrest in the 5A Consolation final on Saturday at Skyview High School.
