SODA SPRINGS 49, NEW PLYMOUTH 40: The Cardinals fought off a gallant effort from the Pilgrims, easing away in the fourth quarter to return to the 2A state championship game, looking to repeat as state champs.
The Cardinals outscored New Plymouth down the stretch, 15-8, to pull away from a one-point lead entering the fourth quarter. They kept things interesting by missing nine of 17 second-half free throws but the Pilgrims failed to take advantage, connecting on just 5 of 30 second-half field goals.
Reagan Yamauchi led all scorers in the game with 17 points on 6/9 shooting from the field for Soda Springs. Jessie Belnap added eight points and seven rebounds off the bench. Kenzie White led New Plymouth with 12 points.
Soda Springs outrebounded New Plymouth, 32-24, including eleven offensive rebounds. That helped offset 24 turnovers for the Cardinals.
WEST JEFFERSON 36, WEST SIDE 34: The Panthers had to hold on through a few frantic moments at the end of the game as West Side nearly pulled an improbable late comeback, but West Jefferson did just enough to survive and advance to Saturday's 2A state championship game.
The Panthers got a game-high 18 points from Kalee Nickerson. She also had five rebounds and two steals. Jade Skidmore added nine points and four rebounds for West Jefferson.
West Side got ten points from Addie Cook and nine from Mattie Creager, but misfired on 11 of 13 three-point field goals and gave up 19 points off turnovers to thwart their comeback hopes.
West Jefferson will face Soda Springs in the 2A State Championship game at the Idaho Center on Saturday.
COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 48, GRANGEVILLE 35: The Chargers recovered from a rough first half by out-scoring Grangeville, 33-17, in the second half to advance to the 2A Consolation final at the IHSAA Girls State Basketball Tournament.
After misfiring on 22 of its 25 first-half shots, Cole Valley Christian went 12/28 after halftime. Conversely, Grangeville couldn't find the range in the second half, going just 5/37 (13.5 percent).
Junior guard Paige Albers led the way with 17 points for Cole Valley Christian, which also got ten points and ten rebounds from Holly Golenor. McKenzie Kennedy led all scorers in the game with 18 points for Grangeville who, as a team, made more three-point field goals (six) than two-point field goals (four).
RIRIE 69, WENDELL 51: The Bulldogs roared out to a 38-15 lead at halftime and were able to keep Wendell from mounting a serious challenge in the second half to advance to the 2A Consolation final against Cole Valley Christian on Saturday.
Haddi Williams had 16 points and seven rebound for Ririe. Madison Brown had 12 and Savanna Gamett added 11. Lupeta Vargas led Wendell with 18 points as the Trojans rebounded to score 38 second-half points, but the hole was just too deep to dig out of.
Ririe attempted 43 free throws in the game, hitting 27, compared to Wendell's 12/26 from the charity stripe. The 15-point difference from the free-throw line ended up being a key factor in the game.
