TETON 48, KIMBERLY 35: The Teton Redskins smothered the previously-unbeaten Kimberly Bulldogs in a 3A state quarterfinal game en route to a 48-35 win on Thursday.
Kimberly had won each of its first 22 games coming in to the tournament opener, but struggled mightily on offense all day long. Starter Maysi Rongen was injured barely a minute into the game and was unable to return for the Bulldogs.
Teton was very efficient on offense, attempting just 34 shots in the game, but sinking 21 (62 percent). Junior Jenna Abbott had a big game for the Redskins, knocking down seven of 12 shots en route to a game-high 18 points and also a game-high nine rebounds. Shelby Kincaid added 16 for Teton.
Ashlie Watts led Kimberly with 15 points but a late, desperate rally in the fourth quarter fell short. The Bulldogs scored 18 points in the final frame after collecting just 17 over the first three quarters.
Teton advances to the 3A state semifinals to face Timberlake on Friday, while Kimberly will face Homedale in the consolation bracket.
TIMBERLAKE 58, HOMEDALE 18: Timberlake scored the game's first 13 points and was never threatened, cruising to a 58-18 victory over Homedale in a 3A quarterfinal matchup at Middleton High School.
Timberlake never trailed, outscoring the Trojans, 35-7, in the first half. The Tigers defense limited Homedale to just one field goal in that span.
Allison Kirby led Timberlake with ten points and the Tigers harrassed Homedale into committing 32 turnovers.
Tristan Corta led Homedale with eight points, including the team's only three-point field goal. The Trojans never could find a rhythm on offense, shooting just 18 percent (6/34) from the field.
Timberlake will face Teton in a 3A semifinal on Friday at 6:15.
MARSH VALLEY 65, EMMETT 47: In a game that featured ten lead changes and seven ties, a late run from Marsh Valley made the final score deceptively one-sided. THe Eagles outscored the Huskies, 20-9, in the fourth quarter to create some breathing room in an otherwise tight, hard-fought game.
Senior Katie Anderson had a monster game for Marsh Valley, scoring 27 points and adding 16 rebounds and two blocked shots. Marsh Valley outrebounded Emmett for the game, 49-25. Taya Batts added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.
Emmett got 22 points from Lillie Smith and 11 from Morgan Mitchell, but shot just 28 percent from the field (17/60) for the game.
Marsh Valley will face Shelley in a 3A semifinal game Friday night while Emmett will face Snake River Conference rival Weiser in the consolation round.
SHELLEY 46, WEISER 38: Shelley connected on just enough free throws in the closing minutes to keep Weiser at bay and advance to the 3A semifinals on Friday against Marsh Valley.
The Russets overall percentage in the second half wasn't great (13/23) but there were a series of timely conversions in the final minute when Weiser was within three points. Kira Marlow hit ten of her 15 free throw attempts en route to a game-high 22 points for Shelley. She also had 13 rebounds, seven on the offensive end.
Weiser struggled to shoot the ball in the second half, making just three of 19 field goals, and ended the game shooting just 23 percent (9/39) to short-circuit any late dramatics. Paige Brown had ten points and eight rebounds for the Wolverines.
Shelley, of District VI, will face District V's Marsh Valley Friday night with a berth in the 3A state championship on the line. Weiser will face Homedale in the consolation round at 3:00.
