Notes: Beat Coeur d’Alene 67-51 in a state play-in game to qualify for state for the seventh year in a row and the 12th time in the last 13 years. ...Has reached the state finals three years in a row, winning the ‘12 and ‘13 titles and falling to Capital in ‘15. ...A Cada-led Borah team has reached state 13 of the past 20 years, and each team has reached Saturday in the tournament. Ten won trophies. ...Cada is 27-12 at state at Borah. ...Bergersen and Jones provide two scoring options that can take over any game. But the Lions struggle to find looks when those two aren’t on. ...Tied with Moscow for the most titles in state history (11).

HIGHLAND RAMS

Players to watch: G Stefan Gonzalez, sr. (20.3 ppg, 5.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists); G/F Connor Harding, jr. (16.6 ppg, 7.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists); G Braydon West, jr. (8 ppg).
Notes: Gonzalez has signed to play for Saint Mary’s. ...Harding is the No. 1-ranked recruit in Idaho for the class of 2016, according to ESPN. Harding has drawn interest from Arizona State, BYU and Utah State. ...The Rams, who are averaging 65.5 points per game, are seeking their first boys basketball state championship since 1996.

NAMPA BULLDOGS

Notes: Trojans, which can go 11 deep, are at state for the seventh straight season, including a state title in 2010 and runner-up finish in ’12. ...Post Falls enters state on a 13-game winning streak. It’s only loss was to Wilson of Tacoma, Wash., in the finals of the Coeur d’Alene Inn-vitational. Wilson finished 20-5, losing in the regional round of the Washington state 3A tournament. ...Post Falls played six games in six days over the holidays — three at the Coeur d’Alene tourney and three more in Boise in an event at CenturyLink Arena.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN GRIZZLIES

Notes: Skyline has reached the state tournament for the second straight season, marking the first back-to-back state appearances for the Grizzlies since 1992. …The Grizzlies averaged 67.1 points per game and gave up 60.9. …Skyline and Borah are the only two teams that have defeated second-ranked Highland this season. …Ely and the Baker brothers have played on the same AAU team since kindergarten.

TIMBERLINE WOLVES

It went two-and-out last season and returns four starters from that team. ...Won the 5A SIC regular season title, then was upset by Nampa at home in the first round of districts before rallying to state. ...All three of its regular season losses came on the road. ...Gonser provides an athletic and strong low-post threat that pairs well with shooters like Berryhill, Ben Salcines and Chauncee Mallory. ...Searching for its first state title. ...Senior guard Brock Rice (4.9 ppg) is the son of Boise State coach Leon Rice. 

CLASS 4A

BISHOP KELLY KNIGHTS

Many of the team’s contributors played junior varsity last season.

CENTURY DIAMONDBACKS

Players to watch: G Malek Harwell, sr. (27 ppg, 10 rebounds, 5 assists); G Leo Behrend, sr. (16 ppg, 7 rebounds, 2 assists); G Grant Foulger, sr. (9 ppg, 4 rebounds, 3 assists); G/F Chase Rowe, sr. (8 rebounds).
Notes: Harwell has signed to play for Boise State. ...Harwell was hurt early in the season and the Diamondbacks, who finished second a season ago, stumbled to a 4-10 start. Since Harwell returned to full strength, Century has won 10 of its last 11 games, including a 61-54 victory over No. 1 Preston on the road to reach the state tournament. ...Harwell is the guy who makes Century go, but Behrend, who averaged 18 points and 11.5 rebounds per game during the District Five-Six tournament, might be the most overlooked player in the state.

LAKELAND HAWKS

FRUITLAND GRIZZLIES

Marsh won at home 57-45, and the Cougars won 65-61 in St. Anthony. ...Marsh Valley likes to play fast and is most dangerous when Vaughan, Dunn and Barker — three quick, speedy guards — find their touch from the perimeter.

PARMA PANTHERS

SHELLEY RUSSETS

SOUTH FREMONT COUGARS

Players to watch: F Con Bauer, sr. (13.2 ppg., 5.3 rebounds, 3.1 blocks); PG Alec Pope, jr. (10.9 ppg., 4.6 assists, 2.7 steals); C Blake Bartschi, soph. (10.2 ppg., 6.9 rebounds, 1.3 blocks).
Notes: The Cougars pushed Shelley to the limit in the district tournament, dropping two close games to the Russets before they blasted Kimberly in Saturday’s state play-in game. …Bauer is a 6-foot-7 wing who is one of the most dangerous 3-point shooters in eastern Idaho. He hit 22 of 60 (36.7 percent) from long range this season. …With Blake Bartschi, a 6-6 sophomore, and Bauer inside and quick guards Pope, Garrett Remington and Junior Gonzalez on the perimeter, the Cougars allowed just 45.2 points per game. After allowing 50 or more points in the first six games of the season, South Fremont allowed 50 or more just three times the rest of the year. …First trip to state since 2007.

WEISER WOLVERINES

Notes: Firth cruised to its ninth straight district tournament title last week and improved to 99-3 against league teams since 2006-07. …The Cougars have won five of the past eight 2A state titles. They’re defending a title for the first time since 2010, when they won the last of four straight. …Guards Adams and Orme do a little bit of everything for the Cougars. Adams leads the team in scoring and assists and is fourth in rebounding, while Orme leads the team is rebounding and assists and is tied for second in scoring. …Firth outscored its three opponents 61.7-24.3 per game during the district tournament.

ST. MARIES LUMBERJACKS

CLASS 1A DIVISION I

GENESEE BULLDOGS

Players to watch: C Beau Tilleman, sr.; G Conner Phillips, jr.’ G Rhett Stout, jr.
Notes: With 26 games under its belt, Genesee has plenty of game experience at this point of the season but might have to worry about heavy legs if the Bulldogs can advance into Saturday’s rounds. ...Tilleman has scored 43 points his last two games and averages a double-double.

LAPWAI WILDCATS
Record: 18-4

Players to watch: G Imani Mitchell, jr.; G Tommy Miles-Williams, jr.; F Courage LoneBear, sr.; G Cameron Shawl, so.
Notes: The Wildcats return to state on a high note after upsetting Prairie in a tightly-contested district title game. ...Playing its own brand of ball, Lapwai aims to outrun its opponents and the Pirates have appeared to be the only 1A foe capable of slowing the Wildcats, who beat Mountain View, a 5A program, 55-44 during a holiday tournament. 

LIBERTY CHARTER PATRIOTS
Record: 20-3

Notes: Went two-and-out at state last year and reached the third-place game in 2013 but lost to Genesee. …Has never won a state title. …Two of its three losses were against district champ Ambrose. The other was against 2A District Three champ Melba.

PRAIRIE PIRATES

Notes: Slamming opponents by more than 30 points per game this year, the Pirates were stunned by a Lapwai team they had flattened twice during the regular season. A wake-up call can do some good every now and then, though, and a district championship game loss doesn’t mean Prairie shouldn’t be a heavy favorite this weekend.

OAKLEY HORNETS
Record: 18-4
State seed: District Four champ
Coach: Travis Noble, third year
Players to watch: G Hewstyn Beck, so. (10.6 ppg); F Caleb Nyman, jr. (9.5 ppg); G Curtis Bedke, sr. (7.2 ppg).
Notes: First state tournament appearance since 2008. …Only four losses on the season were to state tournament teams, including Declo (twice), Carey and Dietrich.

VALLEY VIKINGS

Notes: First state appearance since 2008, the final year of a single 1A classification and a 16-team tournament. That year was the last of an 11-year run at state. ...Winner of 11 straight and 15 of its last 16 after starting the season 4-3. ...Averaging 55.9 points per game while holding opponents to 42.3 points. ...Howe said the Lumberjacks play multiple defenses and six different players could lead them in scoring on any given night. ...Searching for its first state title. ...Only state finals appearance came in 2004. 

DIETRICH BLUE DEVILS

LAKESIDE KNIGHTS

Notes: First trip to state in school history for the Moscow school after joining the IHSAA as a full-fledged member last year. ...Ryan will run for Washington State’s track and cross country teams next year. Wintz will walk on to Idaho’s track team and Handel will run for Lewis-Clark State. ...Wintz and Ryan average more than 20 points per game while Handel, a diminutive spark plug, complements them with more than 10 points per game. 

MACKAY MINERS

Notes: Rockland’s first loss to a district opponent this season was in the tournament championship game to Mackay. ...The Bulldogs had to defeat Richfield 54-33 in a state play-in game. ...Rockland senior Rex Permann became the sixth player in the history of the boys program to score at least 1,000 career points this season.

SUMMIT ACADEMY PATRIOTS
