I look back on my summer this year and wonder, "Where did all of the time go?". Between a few road trips, a family wedding, and my daughter Naomi being born, it's seems like summer just flew by. While I do enjoy the summer thoroughly (my wallet and the golf courses in East Idaho would agree), I LOVE getting back in the swing of things with High School sports.
Once again this year, IdahoSports.com will be bringing you coverage of high school sports from around the state. And as has been since it's inception, IdahoSports.com's staple is scores, schedules, and standings from around the state.
It's kind of a daunting task if you think about it: getting scores and schedules from EVERY school in the state for the sports they participate in. When I began as the Sports Information Director here at IdahoSports.com, I had no idea just how much work goes into it. But, since I'm one of those guys that has an OCD mentality when it comes to these things, hopefully you can reap the benefits of having these scores and schedules in front of you.
I should mention that I have a couple of 'minions' (HR asks me to call them 'interns') that are helping me this year with the scores, which is nice for me to have. That being said, you the viewer can submit those scores for your team too! Just click on the 'Report Score' tab on the Schedules page to submit it. Or you can email me: matt@idahosports.com.
The 2014 IdahoSports.com Fall Football Previews are being posted throughout the weekend, so make sure to check back for that great information that many coaches throughout the state submitted to us. Don't forget the audio interviews we did with a lot of those coaches when checking out the preview too.
Another aspect of IdahoSports.com that has expanded over the last few years is that of the 'GameStreams' webcasts. Our coverage in that manner will continue again this season: in fact, we have 15 games slated to be webcast this weekend for football. As always, we want you to be at the games in person if at all possible! Support your schools and student-athletes! But, if you or your family members and friends can't make it for whatever reason, check out the games right here on IdahoSports.com.
Part of that coverage for the first weekend will include the 2014 Rocky Mountain Rumble presented by Chad's Rentals at Holt Arena. This is the seventh year of the rumble, and from what I've been able to determine through my preparation to broadcast those games, it's going to be a competitive slate of games.
The Rumble gets underway at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday with Minico taking on Douglas HS from Minden, Nevada. Douglas competes in Nevada's Division I classification, the largest in the Silver State. That game will be followed by Skyview squaring off against Mojave HS from North Las Vegas, NV, at 1:30 p.m. Mojave is a team that competes in Division I-A, the second largest classification in Nevada.
The third game of the Rumble features the two-time defending 3A State Champion Shelley Russets going against the Faith Lutheran Crusaders from Las Vegas at 4:30 p.m. The Crusaders play in the same conference and classification as Mojave HS and are led by Vernon Fox, a former NFL player with the Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins. In his first season as coach, he took Faith Lutheran from a 3-6 record to a 12-2 year with a State Championship.
The final game showcases long-time 5A powerhouse Highland against the Orem Tigers from Utah. Many of you may remember Orem as the team that hammered the Rams two years ago in the Rumble, 42-24. Both sides return a few familiar faces, but there is a lot of new personnel mixed in to for the Rams and Tigers. This game kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
Finally, the 'East Idaho Game Night' series presented by IdahoSports.com and Z103 has a new TV partner. Local News 8's "SportsLine" has jumped on board with us and we are very excited to have them in the fold. Each week, 'East Idaho Game Night' will travel to different locations around East Idaho for different high school football games. We'll try to get to as many locations as we can, all while having fun along the way. Our first game of the season will be at Firth HS as the Cougars host West Side in a rematch of the 2A State Semi-Finals from last season.
High School sports are back: it's time to get to work. I'm thoroughly excited about this season and the potential it brings for everyone involved.
