Reverse the Curse

At one point this season, Genesee was carrying a 17-game losing streak.  Following the Bulldogs' win on Friday, the team has won three straight, improving to 3-1 overall, 1-0 in 1A Whitepine League play.  Shoshone had a 16-game losing streak before winning on September 13.  Guess what - they won again Friday afternoon, improving to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the 1A Sawtooth Conference.  Salmon River?  Ten straight L's before picking up back-to-back wins going into their bye week, sitting at 2-1 overall as the team heads into their Long Pin Conference opener this coming Friday.  Hat tip to head coach Justin Podrabsky and the Bulldogs, Mike Nunnelee and the Indians, and Ty Medley and the Savages.  The coaches and kids stuck with it and are being rewarded for their efforts.

Fillin' the Shoes

When do-it-all, All-State standout Jack Driskill graduated from Logos, the question emerged of who could possibly fill that role at quarterback.  Head coach Nick Holloway turned to senior Seamus Wilson, who did not play as a junior, and he has not disappointed.  The Logos offense has scored 60 points or more in each of its past three games with Wilson at the helm as the Knights have recovered from a zero-week loss to defending state champion Butte County, sitting at 4-1 overall and 4-0 in 2A Whitepine League play.  While eyes state-wide are already on Logos' game at Kendrick on October 18, Holloway, Wilson, and the rest of the Knights are not looking past Prairie (3-1, 2-0 Whitepine) this Friday.

Crunch Time

Much has been made of the overall struggles of the 2A Western Idaho Conference in District 3 in recent years.  The conference's last playoff win was a 15-6 Wilder win over Potlatch in 2019, going 0-7 in postseason play since then.  Early non-conference struggles make this week pivotal for each of the four members - if they want to play postseason football, the margin for error is slim, due to the reliance on MaxPreps rankings to determine at-large berths.  Winning the WIC is the only guarantee and that starts in earnest this week as Rimrock (2-1) hosts Notus (1-3, 1-0 WIC) and Wilder (0-3, 0-1 WIC) hosts Idaho City (0-3).  All four teams still control their destiny at this point with the two winners this week taking an important step forward.
