1. Kai Ward (Raft River)
The senior helped his team start the season with a major bang in a come-from-behind win over Grace on Friday. Ward ran for 287 yards, added 64 receiving yards, and combined for seven touchdowns (six rushing, one receiving) on offense and had 13 tackles and an interception on defense for the Trojans.
2. Cameron Holmes (Genesee)
The sophomore running back rushed for 201 yards and a pair of scores as the Bulldogs snapped a lengthy losing streak (more on that below) with a win over Salmon River. It's early but Holmes is already pushing 400 yards rushing on the season.
3. Zach Permann (Rockand)
Yep, that's right, another Permann in Rockland, and the sophomore didn't disappoint in the Bulldogs' season-opening win over Camas County. He rushed for 74 yards and a score, had 46 yards receiving and two scores, and added 13 tackles and an interception on defense.

This Looks Familiar
A storyline coming into the season - heck, maybe THE storyline - in the 1A Rocky Mountain Conference revolved around how the Rockland Bulldogs would replace All-State, do-it-all standout Teague Matthews. Coming into Friday's game at Camas County, head coach Gerry Hunter handed the keys to the Bulldog car to sophomore Xavier Parrish. Parrish threw three scoring passes in the opening quarter before suffering an injury, which led to junior Isaac Held taking over at quarterback. The 6-foot-2 long-strider completed eight passes for three scores and also ran for 106 yards and another touchdown, his game and style looking an awful lot like...dare we say it...Teague Matthews in the team's 60-14 win. Hunter says it is unclear how long Parrish's injury will keep him on the sideline so, for now, Held will be the team's quarterback. His first starting assignment at the position will be a challenging one - at Dietrich on Friday.
A Chance for a New Streak
When Camdyn Brummer broke up a last-second pass in the end zone, the Genesee Bulldogs had officially secured their first win of the season, a dramatic 22-20 win over Salmon River. Notably, the win snapped a 17-game losing streak for the Bulldogs and allowed the team to walk off the field as winners for the first time in 735 days. It was also the team's first win at home since defeating Kamiah on October 9, 2021. Up next for Genesee is a road game at Troy on Friday night.
Hazy Start
We're two weeks into the high school football season and the 2A Western Idaho Conference - the entire conference - has played one game. Wildfires in southern Idaho bear a lot of the blame as several football games in District 3 were canceled due to poor air quality. As a result, Idaho City, Wilder, and Rimrock have yet to play a game. Only Notus, which lost a tight game against a solid 1A Tri-Valley team, has played a game so far.
