Listen to the weekly Idaho 8-Man PrepCast
1. Jack Driskill, Logos
If he wasn't padding his personal resume before, he is now. In Friday's quarterfinal win, the senior threw for 526 yards and seven touchdowns, and, for good measure, he ran for 101 yards and two more scores. And it isn't like he did it against some two-bit slug. Driskill did it against one of the state's better teams, Murtaugh, to help the Knights advance to next week's 1A Division 1 semifinals.
2. Teague Matthews, Rockland
It was going to be a challenge to match Driskill's nine-TD outing, but Rockland's Matthews gave it a good run - he picked up eight total touchdowns (five rushing, three passing) to go along with 440 total yards from scrimmage to lead the Bulldogs past Tri-Valley and into a 1A Division 2 semifinal contest next week with Camas County.
3. Ky Kendall, Hagerman
He didn't have nine touchdowns. He didn't even have eight. But the Pirates' junior did score five times (four rushing, one receiving) and collected over 200 yards of total offense on a rainy, messy, muck of a day as Hagerman defeated Mullan/St. Regis on the road. His performance earned his team a home date against powerhouse Kendrick in the other 1A Division 2 semifinal.

Not Much Drama (The Sequel)
We mentioned last week's eight games didn't bring many tight football games. Neither did the quarterfinal round. In eight games between the two classifications, we saw Kendrick win by 90, Oakley win by 64, Rockland win by 58 and Camas County win by 57. The closest margin of victory? Grace's 20-0 win over Kamiah. The average margin of victory among all 8-man games last week was 28.5 points. This week? Try 49.6 per game.
Balanced Hornets
Want to know how much Oakley spread the ball around in its quarterfinal win over Notus? Three different players had multi-touchdown games - Bry Severe, Bridger Duncan and Isaac Cranney. Senior Kyler Robinson completed six passes, four of which went for touchdowns. Three of those went to different pass-catchers (Cranney, Kooper Beck, Briggs Matthews). The Hornets only faced five third-down plays in the entire game. Oakley has scored 540 points so far this season and has only been held below 60 twice so far in nine contests.
The Final Four
It's "Semifinal Week" and there are two different feels in the two brackets. In 1A Division 1, you'll find arguments to be made for Logos, Grace, Butte County, and Oakley as the team that will get the championship banner to hang at their school in a couple of weeks. In 1A Division 2, the consensus seems to be it's a fight for second place; most feel Kendrick is a virtual lock to win its third straight state title, it's just a matter of who the Tigers beat to do it. Step one is Hagerman in the semifinals on Saturday, then either Camas County or Rockland in the championship round. Kendrick served notice that they're not taking anything for granted by hanging 90 points on a good Dietrich team in the quarterfinal round, but coaches and players in Hagerman, Rockland, and Fairfield (Camas County) eagerly await their opportunity to compete with the Tigers.
