Listen to the weekly Idaho 8-Man PrepCast

Here are the top performers from this weekend's slate of Idaho 8-Man action.

1. Ty Koepp, Kendrick

With the career this senior quarterback has had, you may wonder why 298 total yards (188 passing, 110 rushing) and five scores (three passing, two rushing) lands him on the Idaho 8-Man "3 Stars" list.  Look who he did it against - Oakley, which has won the last three 1A Division 1 state titles.

2. Troy Smith, Camas County

The "other" marquee matchup had Smith and his Musher squad hosting the talented Garden Valley Wolverines.  Smith took over with four scores in the first half as Camas County ran away from the visitors en route to the big win.  He finished the game with 185 yards rushing and three scores, an interception returned for a touchdown, and 11 tackles.

3. Connor Perkins, Dietrich

Round of the All-Division 2 "3 Stars" this week is Perkins, who passed for 218 yards and three scores while adding 143 yards and two scores, six tackles, and an interception in regulation.  For good measure, the senior added three more scores in overtime as the Blue Devils picked up a thrilling win over Rockland in triple overtime.  More on this one coming up...

Honorable Mention:

Razor Duke (Butte County)
Ky Kendall (Hagerman)
Benny Reichel (Hansen)
Kaelun Jones (Horseshoe Bend)
David Kludt (Kamiah)
Qwincy Hall (Lakeside)
Jack Driskill (Logos)
Paylen Bruley (Mackay)
Oscar Aburto (Murtaugh)
Rusty Hatch (North Gem)
Isaac Cranney (Oakley)
Kas Bachman (Rimrock)
Teague Matthews (Rockland)
Julian Davis (Wallace)

Shootout of the Week

We mentioned Connor Perkins' performance above in his team's wild, 56-50 win over the Rockland Bulldogs in triple overtime.  He was matched nearly play-for-play by Rockland's Teague Matthews, who had six scores (two rushing and four passing) and contributed eight tackles on defense.  Where Perkins shone brightest was after regulation, where each team starts possessions on the ten-yard line.  Perkins called his own number on three, one-play scoring drives in the extra frames, carrying it three times for 30 yards and three scores to carry his team to the win.

Touchdown-Toss Machine

After competing in a cooperative agreement with nearby Challis last fall, the Mackay Miners are fielding their own football team this season and have started with two impressive wins.  Want something more impressive?  Senior quarterback Paylen Bruley is 11-of-13 passing in the two games and nine of his 11 completions have gone for touchdowns.   He also leads the team in rushing after two games.  Bruley and the Mienrs will make the 2.5-hour drive to Dietrich to face Perkins and the Blue Devils on Friday.

The All-Name QB

Butte County's new quarterback has a great name for football - Razor Duke.  The junior has helped the Pirates jump to a 2-0 start with a total of 31 carries for 241 yards and four scores rushing.  He has also completed 8 of 13 passes on the season for 209 yards and two scores.  A stern test awaits as his team will host Camas County on Friday in Arco on IdahoSports.com.
