We do things a little differently in the semifinal and championship rounds of the postseason. Instead of limiting things to three (total) stars, we select one star per team, win or lose.
1A Division 2: Dietrich 72, Garden Valley 20
Dietrich: Cody Power threw for 268 yards and five scores, ran for 166 yards and four scores, made seven tackles, and intercepted a pass as the Blue Devils pulled away from the Wolverines to reach the Division 2 championship game next week.
Garden Valley: Sophomore Tim Larsen provided a great highlight for his team with a 62-yard touchdown run and also provided his usual, reliable play on defense for the Wolverines, who will return plenty of talent in hopes of advancing one round further next fall.
1A Division 2: Kendrick 38, Castleford 8
Kendrick: Junior Ty Koepp threw for 304 yards and five touchdowns and also ran for 60 yards and two more scores as the Tigers shook loose from Castleford to return to the 1A Division 2 title game and will face Dietrich next week.
Castleford: Jayme Ramos completed 13 of 16 passes against a Kendrick defense that had not allowed a single point since September 9. His first quarter touchdown pass to Santi Alvarado and ensuing two point conversion run tied the game at 8-8, but Kendrick pulled away for the win.
1A Division 1: Oakley 26, Carey 18
Oakley: Senior quarterback Porter Pickett passed for 184 yards and three scores - two of which came during a fourth quarter comeback - to help the Hornets get past conference rival Carey to reach the 1A Division 1 state championship game. Oakley is in search of its third straight state title.
Carey: Senior Conner Simpson's final appearance in a Panthers jersey did not disappoint. He had 117 yards receiving and a touchdown to go along with 95 yards rushing. His catch off of a deflection in the closing seconds gave Carey one last chance to tie the game.
1A Division 1: Grace 38, Kamiah 12
Grace: Tytan Anderson ran for two touchdowns and passed for three more as the Grizzlies scored the game's final 32 points to reach the state title game. Anderson had a hand in all five Grace touchdowns against a good Kamiah defense.
Kamiah: Porter Whippel, the Whitepine Defensive Player of the Year, had seven tackles and a sack to help keep the Kubs in the game deep into the fourth quarter. He finished the season with 15 sacks in just nine games and is only a junior.
