The Watersprings Warriors were "Even Steven" in 2023, finishing 4-4 overall and 2-2 in Rocky Mountain Conference play.
After qualifying for the postseason in 2022, coach Shane Remer's team narrowly missed out on a repeat appearance.
Only two playoff slots were available from the RMC a year ago. League champ Rockland (an eventual semifinal team) sewed their spot up with a week to play in the regular season.
The second postseason berth came down to a three-way tie between Watersprings, North Gem and Mackay. All three beat each other in head-to-head action (Watersprings topped North Gem, North Gem defeated Mackay and Mackay bested Watersprings).
So the three-way tie was settled via a point-differential tiebreaker. Mackay squeaked through by just two points, leaving Watersprings tantalizingly close to the playoffs.
Six seniors departed via graduation, but standout returnees like Korban Nelson and Luke Henry will have Waterprings right back in the mix in 2024.
The Warriors open their season against Hansen. That's followed by non-conference affairs with Hagerman and St. Joseph School in Utah.
Then, the RMC gauntlet begins. Further complicating matters is the addition of Challis to the league this year. The Vikings successfully petitioned down a level in an effort to bring their program some positive momentum.
