Team Preview
Written by: Lucas Gebhart Skyview’s seniors have come a long way. As sophomores, the class saw its football program go 2-8 in 2022, but last year’s 7-4 season ended with a playoff appearance and the now senior-heavy squad is looking to take another step. “We feel like we have a special group of seniors that has seen an overhaul in our program culture since they were sophomores,” head coach David Robinson said. “They are very cohesive and committed to the culture.” The senior class is led by linebacker and receiver Mason Krahn who enters the season with a commitment to the University of Idaho. Henry Downey moves from his starting running back role to quarterback as he takes over Cache Beus. Beus towered well over 6-feet and finished the year as one of Idaho’s best quarterbacks. Brodie Fleshman and Tim Buchinskiy will move into the backfield to fill the void left by Downey. “We are a balanced attack with a strong emphasis on running the ball and creating big plays in the passing game,” Robinson said. Many of the stars on offense will also lead the way on defense, Robinson adds as Krahn, Fleshman and Downey lead what could be the state’s best linebacking core. Up front, look for Cooper Mai and Kade Taylor to provide a physical presence while DJ Rosti and Dane Bowman lead the secondary. “Our secondary play will be critical to our defensive success,” Robinson said. “We need to improve against the pass on passing downs.” Skyview opens the year with Minico Aug. 23. The Hawks host the defending state champions, Bishop Kelly, October 4.
