For the first time in over twenty years, there will be a new head coach roaming the sidelines at North Fremont High School this season.
Longtime coach Ben Lenz retired in the offseason, and school officials moved quickly to select his replacement: Keith Director.
Director recently moved to East Idaho from New Orleans. While living in the Big Easy, Director served as a trainer for several athletes. His client was impressive and featured:
National Football League players and coaches
NCAA football players
Major League Baseball players
And NCAA baseball players
Since moving to east Idaho, he has opened Director Boxing & Training, a private gym he built on his property. He’s also gotten his coaching feet wet after serving as North Fremont’s 14U travel baseball team this past spring and summer.
So to summarize: North Fremont, a team that has gone 53-9 over the past six seasons is now being coached by a world-class athletic trainer.
Although its Director’s first time as a head football coach, he has plenty of experienced returners to lean on. Senior Roy Wynn and junior Andrew Martin were both All-Conference running backs a season ago, and will line up at defensive back and linebacker, respectively, on defense.
Senior guard Orrin Miller and junior center Bryce Nedrow will pave the way up front. Miller joins Martin at linebacker on defense, while Nedrow will play defensive end.
“We’ll be physical and fast-paced on offense,” says Director. “We want to increase the tempo, and use that speed, physicality and depth on defense to shift between 4-3 and 3-4 looks.”
With Director’s background in athletic training, enthusiasm is at an all-time high. But that won’t matter if the Huskies overlook the small stuff.
“The X-factor to our season will be how well our offseason program went, plus how our coaches prepare and structure the program,” says Director. “We have to pay attention to details.”
