Team Preview
Written by: Dallin Fryar As Mountain Home High School enters the new football season, head coach Ben Rayfield is gearing up for his second year at the helm after 8 years as an assistant with the Tigers. After going 2-7 in his first season as the head coach, Rayfield is excited about the growth he has seen throughout the offseason. The team is set to return several key players, such as wide receivers Cash Wiley and Tristan Abrego, linebacker Jaydin Blair, and defensive lineman John Hopson. These seniors, along with junior linebacker Jack Kinnan, are expected to lead the team both on and off the field. However, the team will also feel the loss of key players like Cade King, a standout linebacker who led the team in tackles, and offensive linemen Izaak Krohn and Devin Maier, who provided a lot of experience and leadership. Mountain Home's offense will benefit from the return of many skill players, with a focus on leveraging the size and strength of their improved offensive line. On defense, the team is looking forward to capitalizing on the experience gained by a young squad last year, with hopes of playing faster and with greater confidence this season. Coach Rayfield is most excited about the team's increased cohesion, numbers, and commitment he has noticed throughout the offseason. He believes that the key to success this season will be the team’s ability to stay united through the inevitable ups and downs. Mountain Home, a team determined to climb out of the bottom of the conference, could be a surprise contender to watch this year in the Great Basin Conference.
