Team Preview
Written by: Marlowe Hereford Madison begins year four under the direction of head coach Chandler Rhoads, marking four years he has coached a group of seniors their entire high school careers. The Bobcats move to Idaho's new 6A classification this fall with nine returning starters from the 2023 roster, including seniors Hazen Torgerson, Barkley Beck and Rex Salas. Torgerson was an Honorable Mention All-Conference quarterback last season while Salas received Honorable Mention All-Conference as an offensive lineman. Beck is a returning First Team All-Conference running back/wide receiver, Summers is a returning First Team All-Conference linebacker and Bryce Dredge is a returning Second team All-Conference linebacker/running back. "We have our first senior class," Rhoads said. "Excited to see what they can accomplish." Nick Sorrell, head coach of 2023 5A state champion Highland, tabbed the Bobcats as a District 5-6 team to watch this season due to their experience and size on the offensive line. Madison went 1-2 in District 5-6 play last year. Rhoads said consistency and staying healthy will be Madison's keys to success this season. He added that Rigby quarterback Jake Flowers, a junior, will be a player to keep an eye on in District 5-6 this fall. Madison begins its season Aug. 23 with a home game versus Bonneville. The Bobcats begin 6A District 5-6 play Sept. 27 at Thunder Ridge.
