Team Preview
Written by: Dallin Fryar Despite only winning one game in 2023, the Jerome Tigers enter the 2024 season off a win. Their lone victory came in the last week of the regular season against Mountain Home, and they gained a lot of experience in the 2023 season with a lot of young players getting a lot of playing time. Rich Bishop returns for his second season as head coach of the Tigers after 24 years spent as both an assistant coach and head coach at Kimberly. After starting six games as a freshman at QB, Kale Bingham will return to his duties behind center and Coach Bishop is excited to have him back. “We’re looking forward to year two with him under center. He has a strong arm, can run the ball, and understands the game well.” The Tiger offense is littered with senior playmakers including Seth Capps, Wes Cook, Daxton Sharp, and Lane Arellano. The offense struggled to get going in their first five matchups in 2023 but were able to finish their last four games over 20 points in each contest. If the Tigers can stay healthy up front, they will look to continue that offensive production. On the defensive side of the ball, Jerome will look to their linebacking core of Sharp, Young, Capps, and Trey Smith to anchor the defensive unit. The secondary will be young, but long with decent speed. The keys to Jerome’s defensive success in 2024 will be preventing the big play and getting off the field on 3rd down. With several players playing both ways, the less time the defense can spend on the field, the better for the Tigers. The Tigers will have their work cut out for them in the difficult GBC conference. After an opening week clash against Gooding, the Tigers will go to GBC powerhouses Twin Falls and Minico in back-to-back weeks before returning home for three consecutive weeks. Despite the move to 5A, all the members of the GBC remain the same in 2024.
