The Wallace Miners found success in the ’21-22 season and made a trip to the state tournament for the first time since 2008. Helping them to that success was All-Conference selection Britany Phillips, who will be a junior this season and is bringing her two younger sisters with her. Bethany (sophomore) and Kylee (freshman) will join Brittany in the Miner uniform, creating a trio which Head Coach Nichole Farkas is excited to coach.
Another key returning player will be post Tia Hendrick, a junior with good experience. With “strong guards attacking the hoop and good post players” coach Farkas is confident in the balanced offense of her team. Farkas is hoping to use height to their advantage, as well as pushing the ball up the floor. Although the Miners have no seniors on the team, Coach Farkas is looking for younger players to fill the holes left from last season. She anticipates growth and steady improvement as the Miners hustle to make some noise throughout the season and earn another trip to the state tournament.
Having a three-team conference means every team gets very familiar with their opponents. The remaining two teams in the Scenic Idaho Conference hoping to give Wallace a challenge are Lakeside and Genesis Prep. The Knights of Lakeside bring back a strong player in Arianna Havier-Gorr. Lakeside might have the advantage early in season with their experienced roster.
Genesis Prep is a team continually gaining experience and momentum in the SIC. The Jaguars have senior All Conference selection Miya Anderson returning to lead her team.
