Behind a firepower surplus on offense the Skyview Hawks should once again be contenders for the 4A SIC title.

The lethal combination of quarterback Wyatt Storer and go-to receiving target DeMonte Horton through the air is sure to give opposing defensive coordinators headaches trying to plan how to slow down the passing game.

Horton was First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-State a year ago, while Storer was a Second Team honoree for both the SIC and the state.

"Our offense is technically retooling this season, but with a strong off-season [Skyview won the Famous Idaho Potato 7-on-7 tournament] and upcoming players, we do not look to miss much of a step if any," said 15th year Head Coach David Young. "We return our quarterback Wyatt Storer and a big time wide receiver in DeMonte Horton. Look for Tyler Crowe [RB], Adam Trautman [WR] and MJ Salois [TE] to take on bigger roles."

The Hawks will need to find a front though.

"We look to put together a young offensive line and mature them quickly," added Young.

Alongside senior Scott Rudder, incoming juniors Cooper Lund and Logan Davis are expected to be the anchors protecting Storer and opening up holes for the running game.

On defense it will be a largely new look for Skyview.

"Our defense will be rebuilt around linebacker Tyler Crowe," said Young. "Look for defensive ends Landon VanHooser and Logan Davis and nose tackle Levi Scott to provide a lot of beef in front of him to keep him freed up. Linebacker Masen Medl, safeties Jerron Holbrook, Davis Young, Isaiah Barba and Caden Jantz will provide a lot of speed and toughness. Also, defensive back Corey Wockenfuss will match up with most other team's [top] wide receivers."

As always, stopping the run and playing physical and fast are areas of focus for the Hawks.

While on paper there is some top tier talent in key positions, there is still plenty of work to do in order to make sure the talented seniors are utilized to max potential.

"We are almost starting from scratch. Our senior class is not big [15 total kids] and our junior class lost every game but one freshman year by 40 points," said Young. "Yet, we have had a great summer and have the pieces needed to get to the playoffs. This leads to the process of getting tougher and getting better. To see this group of seniors band together and lead us through another great season."

In a conference highlighted at the top by Bishop Kelly, Middleton, Emmett and Vallivue, expect Skyview to be right in the mix.

"We do play Bishop Kelly the last week of the season," added Young. "If things go right, that will be for the conference championship."

The first step in the process of getting to that point for the Hawks will come on August 25 as they welcome in Lakeland.
