Year one for Dan Holtry on the sidelines in Nampa did not yield the hoped for on-field results, with an 0-9 season the end result.

Things started tough for the Bulldogs, with the offensive unit only putting up 20 points and being shut out twice in the first five games of the year. It got a little better over the course of the last four weeks, with Nampa eclipsing double digit scoring in three of its last four games.

Now the task is to figure out how to deal with 5A competition for a school that has struggled in multiple other sports as well with the step up in classification.

It is no easy task.

To do it, the Bulldogs will look to a quarterback tandem.

"We will be young offensively. Braden Minor and Donovan Estrada will be contributing at the helm," said Holtry. "Cade Smith is a talented young athlete that will help move the ball down the field. Brian Carrillo started in a few games late in the season and became a proven running back."

Against such tough competition on a weekly basis, minimizing mistakes is the name of the game.

"Ball Control [and] no turnovers. We want to be balanced and be able to finish drives," said Holtry.

An offensive line led by Tanner Glascock, Luis Lugo and Marcus Crespin will hope to give each quarterback the time needed in the pocket, along with opening the lanes for the running backs to get through.

Defensively it is almost a reset for Nampa.

"We will be rebuilding the defense this season," said Holtry. "We only have a few returning starters. We want to be able to stop the run, prevent big plays and get takeaways."

For a team looking to build itself back up, the Bulldogs will rely on the motto, "Be Remarkable", which Holtry coined.

"Do something so positive for yourself and the team that it is worth remarking about," he explained.

The first opportunity to see that philosophy through for Nampa will be the opener on the road at rival Caldwell.
