It will be a numbers game for Jerome this season, with the Tigers not having a ton of depth, meaning staying healthy will be of premium importance.

Returning senior quarterback Jordin Myers will help keep some consistency on the offensive side of things. Myers will have to do it this time around without the benefit of key playmakers Joey Lenker and Logan Geist.

"We have a veteran quarterback in Jordin Myers. He has been a varsity player since his sophomore year," said Head Coach Sid Gambles. "We have a good tight end in David Harker who is bigger and stronger than our usual tight ends. Colten Craig is gonna have to stay healthy as he is going to get a ton of carries at running back and has to give us some quality time at linebacker too."

Perhaps the biggest concern on the offensive side of the ball is what to do with the offensive front. Losing Jakob Palmer to graduation hurts the Tigers on both ends of the ball, with multiple big hogs around him having departed as well.

How quickly Jerome can patch things up on the lines will have a big say in the season record when things are all said and done.

Gambles is hoping to see more efficiency in the run game to help to keep a defensive unit that has struggled to hold opponents off the scoreboard the past couple of seasons off the field for some longer breathers.

That defensive unit will rely on a lot of similar names that Jerome will throw out on offense as well this season.

"We are going to have to use more two-way players than ever before," said Gambles. "We will keep our defense basic and try to get pressure with unique stunts and blitzes. We will stay in a 4-3 or 4-2-5 look. Our free safety is crucial to getting us lined up and we will ask a lot of him. His name is Taylor Scruggs and he’s a bit undersized, but he’s tough as nails and loves football."

If there is one key takeaway for a program that may be a little thinner than it would like to be on numbers, it is that hard workers exist all over the field.

"We’ve had a good summer so far and the attitude is great. We are asking a lot from some juniors and I am excited to see them rise to the top," said Gambles.

Among the newcomers, expect wide receiver and cornerback Victor Santos to perhaps be the most dynamic. While it will be difficult to replace Lenker's size, speed and ball ability from the receiver position, Santos will need to be one of the guys that helps to make that happen.

The season opener at home against Mountain Home will tell a lot about what Jerome will have this season, with many athletes getting their first opportunity at varsity football action.
