New head coach Dan Holtry will look to turn Nampa into a winning culture. Holtry has spent 11 seasons with Nampa and four with Homedale and will attempt to guide the Bulldogs to their first winning season since the 2011 season.
To do this, the Bulldogs will have to play by their motto; HARD. (Hustle, attitude, respect and discipline)
The Bulldogs had a 3-6 overall record in 2015, but failed to win a conference game.
Led by quarterback Jake Smith, Nampa has a core group of seniors that Smith can throw to. Although standing just 5'8", senior Oscar Sepulvada has blazing fast speed, as he clocked an 11.2 in the 100-meter dash last spring.
Joining him at receiver is Stevie Dina, an elusive receiver who can make defenders miss in the open field.
Fellow senior Victor Marquez will be Holtry’s workhorse running back who will be relied on to get yards when they are much needed.
“He is a hard-nosed, downhill runner.” Holtry said. “He will get yards when we need them.”
The Bulldog defense is also led by a core group of seniors.
Linebacker Zak Roth is the leader of the defense. Roth had 100 percent attendance in the weight room in the offseason and will be calling the plays for Holtry’s defense.
“He really stepped up,” Holtry said.
The Carson brothers will look to shut down opposing quarterbacks. Robert and AJ, both seniors, stand six feet tall and both weight around 160 pounds. The duo are the leaders of the Bulldog secondary. Nampa is entering a new era, the Holtry era, one that is full of excitement and the new head man can already see the effects it is having on his players.
“The excitement and passion that the boys have shown this summer in the way of attendance to summer workouts and camps [is what I’m most excited about]. We have a solid number of kids that want to play and are looking forward to a good season.”
Nampa will open 2016 with a home game against Caldwell.
