After a six win season in 2014, Idaho City had the win total cut in half last year, resulting in a 3-5 mark.

Gone from that group are eight seniors, meaning it is youth movement time for the Wildcats.

"We will have a lot of holes to fill this year, but [this is] one of the most coachable groups I have been around in a long time," said sixth year Head Coach Jason Roeber. "We will have success based on all eight guys coming together and playing as one."

A pair of linebackers will be relied on to be team leaders, with Jake Standerwick having played the last two years and Ian Donahue expected to be a key cog as well.

The success of the season for the Wildcats will depend entirely on how fast the young team meshes together and matures on the field. Roeber is excited about the prospects of the group.

"Great group of athletes eager to be coached and all-around great young men on and off the field."

It's an interesting conference this season, with Notus, Wilder and Horseshoe Bend all expected to be competitive. Idaho City hopes to be in that group, but will need to find some playmakers on offense to compliment what could be a capable defense.

That offensive unit is so young that it is hard to tell who will end up stepping up and taking over the patrols. Perhaps most important will be forming a wall up front to open up some holes and protect the quarterback.

Roeber is looking for more cohesiveness out of the offense this season and says the defense has to improve on toughness and hitting.

The Wildcats begin 2016 on September 2 at Garden Valley. A week two matchup at Tri-Valley should give a good idea of how talented this Idaho City team is.
