(Editor's Note: At the time of publication, Rick Wells was still the head coach. Since that time, Seth Blick has become the new head coach of the Buhl Indians.)
Buhl will try to reverse the fortunes on the gridiron in 2016 as the squad looks to bounce back from a winless campaign.
Decimated by injuries that prevented Kasey Crossland, Michael Lively and Morgan Montgomery from playing their senior seasons, the Indians struggled to keep games close, with all but one loss coming by double digits.
What 2015 did do however was act as an experience builder for the younger players coming through the program, who will again be asked to have a big role this time around.
Quarterback JP Elkin is back for his second full year as the starter and has multiple weapons at his disposal in the receiving unit including 2nd Team All-Conference honoree Zyon Cleverly and junior newcomers Austin Azevedo and Roy Newberry.
The hope is that the trio will be able to stretch defenses this season and improve upon the 9.5 points per game the Indians put up last year, including back-to-back shutouts to end the campaign against conference foes Kimberly and Gooding.
While the Senators are expected to again patrol the top of the conference standings, the hope for Buhl is to creep closer to Filer and Kimberly.
As can be expected after having injuries overtake the 2015 team before the season even started, avoiding them is the name of the game for Buhl to be successful.
"[We've got to] stay healthy and get the ball to bounce our way a couple times," said Head Coach Rick Wells.
Wells says that experience and depth is a strength of his group overall. Offensively the big asset is the passing game and defensively there is a core of solid tacklers.
Areas the coach identified for improvement included offensive line play, the run game, scoring average defensively and forcing turnovers.
The schedule shapes up well for Buhl this year, highlighted by a pivotal rivalry affair in the first conference tilt at Filer on September 30, before finishing with three consecutive home games to end the season, including hosting Kimberly and Gooding.
