With the exodus of the senior class of last year from the Dietrich girls basketball program, the final key pieces of what was a dominant run from 2011-2014 have all graduated.

What that means for 12th year Head Coach Acey Shaw is a younger group that will be trying to build something up for the Blue Devils.

Losing interior presence Katee Hubert, along with Nicki Larson, Caitlyn Dilworth and Mesa Heimerdinger creates plenty of opportunities for newcomers to try to fill up the stat sheet in every category.

Coach Shaw mentioned sophomore Matigan Bingham as a key returner from last year's group. Even as a young player she will be asked to follow in the footsteps of previous Dietrich greats by taking over a leadership role early in her high school career and carrying forward the tradition into the future.

Offensively the strength for the Blue Devils is the trust that each player has in each other, while an area for improvement will be execution.

On the other side of the floor Dietrich should be able to carry over that trust from the offensive end with great communication.

With the young core of players at his disposal this season, Shaw is most excited to see the improvement of each individual player and the team as a whole as the year goes on.

After a season in which Dietrich made it to the state championship for the sixth year in a row, it will be an uphill climb to get back to the Ford Idaho Center this time around. One thing is for certain though, this team will battle each time out on the floor and should show consistent improvement as the campaign goes on.
