It's a new coach and a new look for the Bear Lake Bears this season, as Emily Schwarting takes over looking to turn around the fortunes of the program.

She has a nice inside-out duo that gives a glimpse into the potential of the roster.

"Ember Casperson sees the floor with great passing and a quick dribble. Jesse Beck [hits the] offensive boards with put backs."

Defensively Karissa Parker as a junior has potential to set the tone for the Bears.

"[Karissa] has a great nose for defensive rebounding and defensive position," added Schwarting.

On each side of the floor the new coach identified areas that Bear Lake hopes to improve upon. Offensively the focuses are shooting and being able to read and react, while on defense she wants to see the ability to run a help defense with good close outs and box outs.

Stylistically expect a 1-3-1 matchup zone to be the staple of the Bears in an attempt to slow down the opposition. The look can be tough to score against when well-executed, so as time goes on in the season it will be interesting to see how the unit has progressed.

The task of leading this group is one that Schwarting is excited for and eager to tackle head on.

"Having the opportunity to rebuild a program is exciting and teaching the girls to see the floor as a teammate."

Other key contributors for Bear Lake this season will include Megan Brogan, Keesha Watson, Matti Critchlow, Callie Clark, Whitney Lloyd and newcomer Katelyn Perkins.

Each should see plenty of playing time as the new coaching staff looks to figure out the best rotations in the early season.
