Written by: Ryan Lee

The Rocky Mountain Grizzlies are coming off yet another successful season where they finished as the 5A SIC conference champions.

After a slip up against Borah High in the first round of the state tournament, Rocky ended up finishing as the state consolation champions. Heading into the new year the Grizzlies will look extremely different after graduating eight seniors, including team captain and first team 5A SIC member, Logan Skurdal. Returning for Rocky Mountain are junior post, Kolby Lee, junior guard, Kobe Terashima, junior guard, Jacob Erickson, senior forward Blair Moore, and senior guard, Zach Ludwig.

Lee vastly improved over the summer and has potential to be player of the year in the conference this season. Leading the Grizzlies again is fifth year head coach Dane Roy, who has prided himself as a coach that always has a team that works hard and plays together.

Offense: This season Rocky will have a great mix of inside and outside players. The challenge will be getting this year’s players experience, and have them play with more confidence. The Grizzlies struggled with turnovers last season and was a key stat in their six losses (21 wins). Areas where Coach Roy would like to see improvement is in the rebounding and turnover categories.

Defense: Rocky along with Centennial will be one of the bigger teams in the conference. They will have great size down low and longer length on the perimeter allowing them to clog up passing lanes and making it hard for their opponents to execute. Coach Roy said he would like his team to play with more toughness this season and have better communication defensively to help each other out when things start to break down.

Wrap-Up: Rocky’s team motto this year is play together. Like in years past, there is no doubt the Grizzlies will bring a team that plays and works hard every night, but if they want to return to the state tournament for a fourth year in a row they will need to have toughness and togetherness. "The Conference is filled with very good competition from top to bottom, but if we can learn to play together and do the little things well we will have a chance for another state appearance this season."– Coach Dane Roy
