The Twin Falls Bruins boys basketball team is a perennial power each and every season. However, this season might be a little different for head coach Matt Harr in his 13th season.

Twin Falls graduated the core of their team, including: Braden Stutzman, Kody Root, Landon Jones, and Avery Manring. According to coach Harr, they are going to be hard to replace.

So youth is the movement this season at Baun Gymnasium. Twin will return Jonah Lutz and Zach Malina but that’s about it. Lutz averaged 14 ppg last season and the Bruins will need him to improve on that number this year.

Meanwhile, Malina is the only other player with any real varsity experience so the young Bruins will most likely face some growing pains early.

Not to worry, team development is one of Harr’s specialties and you can bet that even with a lack of experience, the Bruins will be competitive in every game they play and even battle for a conference title by season’s end.

In order for that to happen, the Bruins are going to have to get a lot tougher in the paint. With the post presence lost to graduation, toughness becomes a big concern for the coaching staff. The Bruins do have some post players they hope will give them quality minutes and give them relevance in the key.

The bottom line for the Twin Falls Bruins this year is that they are rebuilding. But don’t let that moniker fool you. Twin Falls always have hard working and committed athletes and it might take some time to gel and grow but the Bruins will always be there in the end.
