Who do you have coming back this year?
Jake Wilson OL/LB Sr., Kobe Nelson QB Jr., Zack Gamett OL/DL Sr., Javier Garcia WR/K Sr.

Any Returning Players with Honors?
Jake Wilson, 1st Team OL, Javier Garcia, 1st Team Kicker

Any “Key Players” that you lost from last year?
Dean Hodges QB/LB, DeWayne Hodges RB/DB, Ryan Hoopes LB

Do you have any new incoming “impact” players?
Reagan Thacker RB/LB So., Shakoda Proctor WR, Sr.
As a team, what are your offensive strengths?
We will be fairly big and experienced up front with four lineman who saw significant varsity action last season. We hope to be able to run the ball effectively.

Offensive areas you hope to improve on over last year:
We would like to be able to throw the ball more often and with better success this season. Be more of a balanced offense.

As a team, what are your defensive strengths?
Again, the front of our defense, like our offense, has good size and experience. We hope to be able to have some success at the line of scrimmage.

Defensive Areas you hope to improve on over last year:
Our linebackers are inexperienced and so they will have to prove themselves. After loosing Dean last season, we struggled at linebacker a bit last season. We hope that is more of a position of strength this season. We moved Jake Wilson to that position hoping to help solidify that spot.

Does your team have a motto/theme for the upcoming season?
We yell DOGS to break almost any huddle. We’ve attached meaning to the letters that help remind the players of what it means to play for Ririe.

What are you most excited about in regards to this year’s team?
They are willing to do whatever we ask and they give the best effort they have. They are a great group of players to coach. There are no egos.

For the fans, what is the must-see game of the year on your schedule?
Any of our conference games. I think our league is going to be very competitive and close this year. Those games should be exiting, hard fought games.

What is the ‘X-Factor’ to having success this season as a team?
O Line and D Line. If we can have success at the line of scrimmage, we will be able to do some things.

If you could change one rule in high school football, what would it be?
I would change the rule that you are down when you fall down without being touched. I think a kid that lays out for a ball should be able to get up and keep going if no defender is there to tag him down.

Besides the pay, the fame and the glory, why do you coach high school football?
Football was a huge help to me individually as a kid. It helped me to learn the principles of hard work, sacrifice, discipline and teamwork. Football is hard and requires mental and physical toughness. Those are attributes that kids can gain from football and those attributes will serve them the rest of their lives.

What makes your school the best place to coach for?
The kids and the community. The kids at Ririe are great. They understand what It is to be good people. The same can be said for the community members. They are so supportive and positive when it comes to our program.
