As a team, what are your offensive strengths? Bringing back our starting quarterback Lawsen Matteson is big for our offense in general. We feel good about the key players we have returning and we are excited to build on the momentum we started last season.
Offensive areas you hope to improve on over last year: We will be replacing four of our five starting offensive linemen from last season so we will be relying heavily on Bo Pickett our Senior Center and All State player to get our Offensive Line working well together. I am confident that our offensive line coach Chris Wright will have our O-Line working as one before we know it.
As a team, what are your defensive strengths? We return a two year starter at DT in Junior Jakobee Osborn as well as all conference DT Colton Grimm. Dayne Jacobs will be a key player for us at LB as a senior as well as Jose Lopez. Josh Tolmie and Brady Brown return at the DB positions for us to give us some upperclassmen leadership in the backfield.
Defensive Areas you hope to improve on over last year: We always continue to improve on our run defense. We felt as though we came a long ways as a defense last season and hope to build on that again this season.
Does your team have a motto/theme for the upcoming season? We feel as though we were overlooked last season and there has been some talk that we will fall off after such a big season last year. Our talk as a team is to be consistent.
What are you most excited about in regards to this year’s team? Most excited to return several key players from last years playoff run and to have that kind of experience coming back this season.
For the fans, what is the must-see game of the year on your schedule? We have a two week home stretch with Fruitland and Emmett that could be big in determining the top of the SRV. Those are going to be big games to come out and support us at home. Playing in the SRV against Weiser, Payette, and Parma there really isn’t an off week for our program so we can use all the support we can get.
What is the ‘X-Factor’ to having success this season as a team? As always Staying Healthy is the key to our success this season.
If you could change one rule in high school football, what would it be? Cut blocking period. I think if we want to keep our kids healthy we need to either get rid of it all together or make it all legal so we can prepare our kids for it at practice.
Besides the pay, the fame and the glory, why do you coach high school football? To help build into these young men the qualities of hard work, character, respect, and the desire to be the best they can be. I will always be grateful to all of my football coaches that helped instill these things in me.
What makes your school the best place to coach for? Tradition, Family, and Community. I think that describes Homedale right there.
