As a team, what are your offensive strengths? With both QB’s returning this year we should be a little better in the passing game. We will need to spread the ball around more this season and not rely so much on our one feature back in last year’s Jacob Johnson.
Offensive areas you hope to improve on over last year: Throwing the ball down the field and find a running back or backs that can become a good “Zone” scheme running back.
As a team, what are your defensive strengths? We run to the ball well and we are going to emphasize turnovers again this season as we did last. We had over 30 take-aways last year.
Defensive Areas you hope to improve on over last year: Doing a better job of stopping long drives by the opposing offenses. Keep out defense off the field.
Does your team have a motto/theme for the upcoming season? “Commitment To Win”
What are you most excited about in regards to this year’s team? Seeing if we have some guys that will step up and fill some big shoes left from last year’s graduating seniors. We are excited to see if we can defend our conference championship.
For the fans, what is the must-see game of the year on your schedule? Canyon Ridge because they are our cross town rival…… Minico because we always have a good game with them, and Jerome because it is at their place and we always have a hard fought game with them. (Editor's note: IdahoSports.com will be web casting those three games!)
What is the ‘X-Factor’ to having success this season as a team? Young guys from last year stepping up and competing this year.
If you could change one rule in high school football, what would it be? I am concerned about the new “targeting” rule this year and how it will be interpreted from one official to the next. It is a call that is all about judgment on the officials part and not clear cut as to what is the intent of the player being called for targeting.
Besides the pay, the fame and the glory, why do you coach high school football? High school sports are still somewhat pure in that people play and watch them for the nature of the sport and not to be entertained or how much money I will make this year or how much revenue our winning season will bring to our college campus. Professional and college sports are starting to be too much business ventures and not just playing a game for the healthy competition between two teams and the good that comes out of that competition between those two teams.
What makes your school the best place to coach for? I think we have a very good balance between academics, athletics, and other activities at Twin Falls High School. It has been the only place that I have taught and coached at, so I don’t know any different and I am not looking for the greener grass on the other side of the fence.
