As a team, what are your offensive strengths? Having players who can play inside or outside will cause mismatch problems with many team. Chantel Key, Madison Brown, Kaleala Bass, Addie Lutz, and McKenzie Kennedy can play multiple positions. Our speed will be our strength.
Offensive areas you hope to improve on over last year: My team was very young last year. We are young this year also but my young players have a year of varsity basketball behind them. Our offensive execution and shot selection must improve this year.
As a team, what are your defensive strengths? Chantel Key can defend guards. Her long arms are difficult to pass around. She tied our school record last year with 13 steals in one game. We have speed and size. I can run man defense, zones, traps and presses. Our focus will be to constantly put pressure on our opponents.
Defensive Areas you hope to improve on over last year: We need to improve on our post defense and move our feet quicker to be in better position. We had too many reach in fouls last year.
What are you most excited about in regards to this year’s team? We are more experienced. I have eight returning players. Our decision making on offense and defense should be better this year.
For the fans, what is the must-see game of the year on your schedule? For the fans, Lapwai and Colton should be fun games to watch. The games should be fast pace with many athletic plays by both teams.
If you could change one rule in high school basketball, what would it be? If I could change one thing about basketball in Idaho, my first choice would be to add a shot clock. It would make the game more fun for the fans and the players.
Besides the pay, the fame and the glory, why do you coach high school basketball? I coach basketball because I love the game. Trying to figure out what will work best with the type of athletes I have makes every year different.
What makes your school the best place to coach for? Grangeville is the best place to coach because the athletes work hard and play team basketball. My athletes are willing to sacrifice personal gain for the better of the team. The support I have had at Grangeville from the administration and parents has helped make my career at Grangeville last longer than most.
