Dereck Brown/post , top rebounder on state championship team, Sam Solberg/post, team leader, most consistent player, Harrison Lutz/guard, playmaker, Zane Laufenberg/guard, top defender from last years team, Brad Schumacher/post, great scorer off the bench

Do you have any new incoming “impact” players?
We had a very strong JV team last year, so there will be an opportunity for several players to fill the spots of the 8 seniors we lost. 2 transfers: Jake Stokes and Tanner Higgins could have an immediate impact.

As a team, what are your offensive strengths?
Michael Wilson and Josh Dame can create offense and can be quite hard to stop. We should have a pretty good shooting team that can attack zone defenses as well as man to man d’s.

Offensive areas you hope to improve on over last year:
Our team shooting percentage was quite low and our free throw percentage was poor (53%). We should be able to improve on FG% with better shot selection all year as we showed in the second half of last season.

As a team, what are your defensive strengths?
): With Michael Wilson and Quaid Blankenship, we have 2 lockdown type of defenders. The remainder of our squad will be committed to playing great defense.

Defensive Areas you hope to improve on over last year:
: We got into foul trouble in some regular season games. Also, we can’t have moments where we are soft. Maintaining a high level of defensive intensity will be a key to our season.

What are you most excited about in regards to this year’s team?
With a mostly new roster it will be a great challenge to get back to the state tournament to defend the title. The building of a team with that challenge is exciting.

For the fans, what is the must-see game of the year on your schedule?
Orofino at Grangeville, will be senior night and Orofino might be the favorite out of the CIL this year.

What is the ‘X-Factor’ to having success this season as a team?
Team defense and discipline on offense.

If you could change one rule in high school basketball, what would it be?
Add a 30 second shot clock. With no shot clock, great defense sometimes gets punished if the offense has an unlimited amount of time to find a shot.

Besides the pay, the fame and the glory, why do you coach high school basketball?
Relationships with students and players. Some of my most memorable moments come from visits with past members of teams, years later.

What makes your school the best place to coach for?
Grangeville High School is the greatest because our student body is supportive and the community cares for our kids. It shows every day in our hallways and classrooms as well as on the court.
