1. 5A District 5-6 Conference
Courtesy of their 24-7 win over Hillcrest last Friday, the Highland Rams have earned themselves another top seeded playoff bid. As a result, Highland will get a bye week on Oct. 31 and enter the state playoffs as the East #1 seed.
There are still three teams in contention for the final two spots: Hillcrest, Madison, and Skyline. Bonneville and Idaho Falls have been eliminated. The lynchpin game last week was Skyline at Madison, a contest which the Grizzlies won 42-41. As a result, Skyline greatly improved their playoff chances. Madison hosts Hillcrest and Skyline takes on Idaho Falls this week. Here are the scenarios:
A) If Hillcrest wins and Skyline loses: Hillcrest takes East #2 seed and Skyline takes East #3 seed.
B) If Hillcrest wins and Skyline wins: Hillcrest takes East #2 seed and Skyline takes East #3 seed.
C) If Hillcrest loses and Skyline loses: Madison takes East #2 seed and Hillcrest takes East #3 seed.
D) If Hillcrest loses and Skyline wins: 3-way tie for second.
*Note: There is an at-large berth available in the 5A state playoffs.
2. 4A District 5-6 Conference
While no playoff order has been determined, two schools have sealed their trips to the postseason: Blackfoot and Rigby. Their game on Friday night in Rigby will be for the conference championship and top seed from the district.
Believe it or not, the three remaining teams in the conference are still in contention for the final playoff spot: Century, Pocatello, and Preston. Century plays at home vs. Preston this week, while Pocatello has a non-conference game at Shelley. Here are the scenarios:
A) If Century wins: Century would take the final playoff spot. Pocatello and Preston would be eliminated.
B) If Century loses: 3-way tie for third place.
*Note: The 'At Large' berth listed on the 4A brackets is only available to the best remaining team from District 3 or 4.
3. 3A District 6 Mountain Rivers Conference
The picture became more clear after Friday's game between Shelley and Sugar-Salem, which the Russets won 27-0. Shelley has clinched the top seed in the conference and will have home-field advantage. There are still two spots open in the four-team conference, however we already know which two teams have qualified as Teton has been eliminated.
South Fremont and Sugar-Salem will advance to the playoffs, but who gets the second seed? Well, South and Sugar play this week in St. Anthony. Here are the scenarios:
A) If South Fremont wins: South Fremont takes seed 6B and Sugar-Salem takes seed 6C
B) If Sugar-Salem wins: Sugar-Salem takes seed 6B and South Fremont takes seed 6C.
4. 3A District 5 South East Idaho Conference
With only one conference game left between the three teams in the conference, it's one final chance for one team to clinch a playoff spot AND avoid a winless season.
American Falls sits at 1-1 in the conference with a win over Marsh Valley and loss to Snake River. Snake River hosts Marsh Valley this week: the Panthers are 6-1, the Eagles are 0-7. Here are the scenarios:
A) If Snake River wins: Snake River takes seed 5A and American Falls takes seed 5B, with Marsh Valley eliminated.
B) If Marsh Valley wins: 3-way tie for first place.
5. 2A District 6 Nuclear Conference
Even though there is one week left of conference play, the playoff seedings in the Nuke are set. Ririe has been eliminated.
Seed 6A = North Fremont (conference champions)
Seed 6B = Firth
Seed 6C = West Jefferson
Seed 6D = Salmon
6. 2A District 5 South East Idaho Conference
Bear Lake's two-game winning streak in conference play has really made things interesting. The only team that is for sure in the playoffs is West Side, who finished their perfect regular season last week with a 12-8 win over Aberdeen.
There are only two playoff spots left open for the remaining four teams in the conference. This week, Bear Lake is at Malad and Soda Springs is at Aberdeen. Here are the scenarios:
A) If Bear Lake wins and Aberdeen wins: Bear Lake takes seed 5B and Aberdeen takes seed 5C, with Malad and Soda Springs eliminated.
B) If Bear Lake wins and Aberdeen loses: Bear Lake takes seed 5B and then there is a 3-way tie for third place between Aberdeen, Malad, and Soda Springs.
C) If Bear Lake loses and Aberdeen wins: 3-way tie for second place between Bear Lake, Aberdeen, and Malad. Soda Springs is eliminated.
D) If Bear Lake loses and Aberdeen loses: Malad takes seed 5B and Bear Lake takes seed 5C, with Aberdeen and Soda Springs eliminated.
7. 1A Division 1 District 5-6 Conference
The conference seeding for East Idaho's only 1AD1 conference is also set, even with one week left in conference play. Grace has been eliminated.
Seed 5-6A = Butte County (conference champions)
Seed 5-6B = Challis
8. 1A Division 2 Sawtooth Conference East Division
This conference race comes down to the wire. The only team that has clinched a play-in game berth is Rockland, who takes the top seed in the division.
On tap this week is Clark County at Rockland and North Gem hosting Mackay. Here are the scenarios:
A) If Clark County wins and Mackay wins: Mackay takes East #2 seed, North Gem takes East #3 seed, Clark County takes East #4 seed, Watersprings is eliminated.
B) If Clark County wins and Mackay loses: North Gem takes East #2 seed, Clark County takes East #3 seed, Watersprings takes East #4 seed, Mackay is eliminated.
C) If Clark County loses and Mackay wins: Mackay takes East #2 seed, North Gem takes East #3 seed, Clark County takes East #4 seed, Watersprings is eliminated.
D) If Clark County loses and Mackay loses: North Gem takes East #2 seed, 3-way tie for third place between Mackay, Clark County, and Watersprings with two open seeds remaining.
