By the time Friday night rolls around, it will have been 287 days between Nov. 16, 2012 (the date of last years' State Championship games) and the start of the 2013 season. That's 9 months and 14 days, or exactly 41 weeks! Football-starved fans will tell you it seemed much longer than that.
Idaho High School football officially gets rolling this weekend with Zero Week. Teams from all around the state have been preparing for this week since the end of last season. The hopes and dreams of football-playing kids in Idaho begin to take shape this week. And we just can't wait to be a part of it!
IdahoSports.com has 10 live broadcasts lined up for you this week, including all five games of the 2013 Rocky Mountain Rumble at Holt Arena. Madison, Shelley, Minico, Pocatello, and Highland will all square off against teams from Utah and Nevada, respectively. Paul Kingsbury and myself will have all the action for you from the Mini-Dome on both Friday and Saturday. If you want to see our full broadcast schedule, click here.
The "Friday Night Flash" will back too! We have people from all over the state who text us scores and updates as they happen... and the Friday Night Flash brings all of those scores to you in one place! For the East Idaho football fans, if you want more football coverage (especially mid-week when there aren't any games normally), tune into KPVI News 6 on Thursdays. Sports director Matt Gittins (Twitter: @Matt_Gittins) and myself will sit down and chat about the three biggest (and/or most interesting) matchups in East Idaho. Matt does an excellent job covering high school sports in East Idaho and I am stoked to be able to talk sports with him on a weekly basis.
Of course, we can't forget about the IdahoSports.com Fall Football Preview Magazine which will be released by classification this week. This year, it's an all ONLINE format. We've been talking to and gathering information from coaches all around the state and can't wait for you to see what they have to say! PLUS, we have audio interviews with some of the coaches which you can hear just by clicking on the audio icon on the page you're looking at!
This is going to be a great season. Let's all relish the moment... 287 days is a long time to wait for next year to roll around.
