(Jayce Allen of Owyhee was named MVP of the boys' game)
The 22nd annual Idaho Statewide All-Star Basketball Games came to North Idaho College's Christianson Gymnasium on Saturday, and the annual event did not disappoint.
Between a dizzying array of slick passes, a bevy of deep three-point baskets, and some highlight-worthy slam dunks, Idaho's best basketball players from the Class of 2025 put their talents on display.
The event featured the familiar "Team Metro" vs. "Team Region" format. Team Metro consisted of players exclusively from District 3's Treasure Valley, while Team Region consisted of everywhere else (North Idaho, Magic Valley and East Idaho).
The Region Girls turned back Team Metro, 89-61. The Region girls, coached by Prarie's Lori Mader, featured co-MVPs Brianne Bailey of South Fremont (16 points) and Shay Shippen of Skyline (12 points on four three-pointers). Both are playing at the Division I level next season: Bailey at Montana State, Shippen at Columbia.
The Metro Girls were coached by Parma's Michael Calkins, and Bishop Kelly's Brooke Hutchinson led all scorers with 17 points.
Team Metro exacted revenge in the boys game with a 123-118 thriller. Team Region made a late comeback, erasing a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter, but ultimately fell short.
Owyhee's Jayce Allen was named MVP of the boys game after finishing with 16 points. Allen was one of six Metro players to reach double figures for coach Jason Tinney of McCall-Donnelly. Capital's Isaiah Telleria led Metro scorers with 17 points.
Team Region, coached by Bonners Ferry's Nate Williams, was paced by Preston's Cruz Harris' 21 points, which led all scorers.
In between contests, Timberlake's Tyler Engelson won the three-point contest by defeating Blackfoot's Addison Tanner in the "Battle of the Sexes" final.
Additionally, Bonners Ferry's Asher Williams outdueled Allen to win the Slam Dunk Contest.
