ORDER GAME PHOTOS

Taking a quick glance at the boys basketball scoreboard from last night, one upset stands out above all the rest.

At the 1AD2 District 2 Tournament, third-seeded Timberline knocked off second-seeded Deary in a tight semifinal, 47-45.  With the win, the Spartans advanced to the district title game against Kendrick.

Timberline started hot, running out to leads of 14-9 after one quarter and 30-18 at halftime.  Deary slowly chipped away at the lead in the second half, but ultimately the hole they dug was too deep to climb out of.  Logan Hunter led the Spartans with 14 points, while Parker Brown finished with 12 and Saimon Tuikolovatu added 11.  Deary was led by Kalab Rickard's game 17 points.

With the win, Timberline now moves into our projected 1AD2 State Tournament bracket.  There's a good chance that Deary and Timberline will meet again in the Third Place Game that will ultimately decide the league's second and final bid to state.

Other highlights from last night:

-- The Lake City boys officially won the 5A District 1-2 championship with an 85-51 win over Coeur d'Alene.  The Timberwolves are still undefeated and will be the No. 1 seed at state next week.

-- Top-seeded Mountain View and second-seeded Owyhee rolled in their respective semifinal matchups at the 5A District 3 Tournament.  The Mavs and Storm will battle for the SIC title on Thursday night at ICCU Arena in downtown Boise, although both have already clinched state bids.

-- Madison also officially won the 5A District 5-6 title over Highland by a 53-32.  The Rams still have a shot at state, as they will compete in a Play-In Game on Saturday against the sixth place finisher from District 3.

-- After losing to Preston last week, the Pocatello Thunder kept their season alive with a 75-53 win over Century.  Now comes the hard part: Pocatello will have to defeat Preston twice to win the 4A District 5 championship.  Pocatello is ranked 2nd in the MaxPreps rankings for 4A, while Preston is 3rd.  It's a shame that one of these teams will be left home for state.

-- Melba defeated Cole Valley Christian 56-52 to win the 2A District 3 title.  Both teams were already assured state berths, so there wasn't much drama.  Of more interest was New Plymouth's 57-53 triumph over Ambrose in the third place game.  The Pilgrims have now advanced to a State Play-In Game against the second place team from District 1-2.  Coach Jeff Lavender always seems to get the 'Grims to state, and this year is no exception.

-- Bear Lake defeated West Side in a tight battle for the 2A District 5 championship, 56-50.  The Bears advance to state, while the Pirates will face the loser of tonight's Ririe-North Fremont battle in a State Play-In Game on Saturday.

-- Second-seeded Carey knocked off top-seeded Castleford 53-51 in the 1AD1 District 4 championship game, clinching a state bid in the process.  Castleford will now face sixth-seeded Valley for the second and final berth to state.  Castleford's only conference loss this year came to.....Valley.

Here is our latest Bracketology.  As a reminder, you can follow all of the district tournament action here.  Teams will be seeded according to their MaxPreps rating.  Teams in bold font have officially clinched state tournament bids.  Until official bids are clinched, we will project the highest seeded teams in each district tournament to claim the automatic bids available.  In the case of potential Play-In Games, the team with the highest MaxPreps ranking will be projected to win.
