Idaho Falls narrowly escaped Blackfoot last week with a 34-33 victory while Thunder Ridge was handed a 39-18 loss at home versus defending 4A state champion Skyline. As the first conference game for both teams, the result could give an idea as to how the 5A High Country Conference will look this season.

The Shelley Russets are undefeated in two games while the Jerome Tigers have dropped two straight contests to 3A competition. The defending Great Basin Conference champions can make a major turnaround, however, if they can pull off this road upset.
Rocky Mountain at Eagle

The Rocky Mountain Grizzlies saw two winning streaks snapped last week: a 10-game overall winning streak and a 29-game winning streak against 5A SIC teams. That came at home at the hands of Mountain View and it won’t get much easier on the road against another high expectation team in Eagle.
Bishop Kelly at Emmett

In just two weeks, Bishop Kelly has shown why they are the front-runner in the 4A SIC. They took Eagle down to the wire in a 35-33 defeat and blew out another 5A opponent in Borah. Emmett won convincingly over Boise before losing a heartbreaker last week at Weiser. In the conference opener for both teams, a lot should be learned about both teams.
Timberline (Boise) at Meridian

After a heartbreaking loss to Mountain View in the opener, the Meridian Warriors rebounded nicely, beating Centennial 41-0. Timberline is undefeated but both of their wins have come against teams that didn’t provide as strong of a test as Meridian will. Timberline looks to continue their dream season by knocking off the Warriors on the road.
Rigby at Skyline

Rigby has cemented themselves as possibly the best team in 5A with yet another rout of a traditional powerhouse in Post Falls. The Trojans may face their toughest test yet, as they take on the defending 4A state champion Skyline Grizzlies.
Mountain View at Borah

It has been a tale of two seasons for these two 5A SIC teams. Mountain View has lived up to its preseason hype with impressive, yet narrow victories over Meridian and Rocky Mountain, while Borah has dropped two straight to Timberline and 4A Bishop Kelly. The upset minded Lions will look to prove that their 0-2 start is a fluke by knocking off the Mavericks.
Kendrick vs Oakley (in Parma)

Kendrick and Oakley will meet in a neutral site game contested in Parma Saturday afternoon. The Hornets and Tigers are both undefeated heading into this contest, but only one will come out unscathed as the defending 1A Division I champion and a semifinalist from 1A Division II face off.

Over 40 teams in four varsity heats will compete at the Tiger-Grizz Invitational in Idaho Falls on Friday. There will be two heats each for girls and boys competitors. The heats will be divided by large schools (5A and 4A) and small schools (3A, 2A and 1A). West Side sophomore Aubrie Barzee holds the best time for girls small school at 21:07.7, Skyline sophomore Nelah Roberts holds the best time for girls big school at 19:31.9, Nampa Christian senior Grady Mylander has the best time for boys small school recording 15:36.1, while Rocky Mountain senior Zac Pollock holds boys big school best time with 15:59.7.

Sandpoint at Lake City

A key Inland Empire League showdown will take place between the current leader in the conference, Lake City and 3rd place Sandpoint on Friday evening at Lake City. As these teams progress deeper into the season, this game will serve as a good measuring stick as to where these teams stand.
Weiser at Sun Valley Community School

In a rematch of last year’s 3A title game, the traditional powerhouses will meet on Saturday at Sun Valley in a matchup that could serve as a preview to a potential state tournament matchup come late October.

Boise at Rocky Mountain

Just about everything will be on the line when the Brave and Grizzlies go at it Friday night as Boise looks to knock off powerhouse Rocky Mountain. The lone loss for both teams came against the same opponent; Lone Peak, Utah. The winner of this game will have the inside path to a conference title in the only meeting between these two this season.

The five time defending state champion Coeur d'Alene Charter Panthers will welcome Freeman High School from Washington on Saturday night as the Panthers look to start the season off 5-0 against the undefeated Scotties.

Timberline, Rocky Mountain, Bishop Kelly, and Columbia will compete at the Rocky Mountain Champions Classic in Lehi, Utah over the weekend
Jerome Invitational

Eight Magic Valley and four Treasure Valley teams will descend upon Jerome Saturday for the Jerome Invitational. Competing schools include Buhl, Capital, Gooding, Jerome, Kimberly, Lighthouse Christian, Mountain Home, Ridgevue, Twin Falls, Valley, Weiser, and Wood River.
West Jefferson Invitational

This 12-team tournament features nine varsity squads, including six from the Class 2A ranks: North Fremont, Ririe, Salmon, Soda Springs, West Jefferson and West Side. Also competing are 3A Teton and 1A squads Butte County and Challis. The tournament will take place in Terreton on Saturday.
